Alcune persone sono state costrette ad abbadonare le proprie abitazioni dopo una piccola esplosione
La gente del posto ha detto che un ordigno è stato collegato a un pilastro del cancello e ha danneggiato un furgone.
Quando la polizia è giunta sul posto hanno scoperto un oggetto sospetto nei pressi di La Salle Park. Sono stati chiamati all’opera gli artificieri dell’esercito britannico.
Il presidente del Lower Falls Residents Association, Robert McClenaghan era presente sul luogo dell’esplosione.
“Ha danneggiato un furgone, quindi era abbastanza potente da farci un buco nel fianco” ha detto.
“Chi ha udito l’esplosione ha detto di non aver sentito nulla del genere da molto tempo così sembra essere stato un esplosivo anziché una specie di fuoco d’artificio”.
La consigliera dello Sinn Fein per West Belfast, Briege Brownlee, ha affermato che le persone respnsabili dell’attacco hanno mostrato “assoluto disprezzo per la comunità”.
“Si tratta di dispositivi attivi e pericolosi”, ha detto.
“La prima pipe bomb era collegata ad una tanica di benzina da un gallone (circa 3,8 litri). La seconda, scoperta solo pochi minuti dopo, era fuori dall’abitazione di un altro residente, ed è simile alla prima.
“Chiunque avrebbe potuto passare vicino a questi dispositivi al momento dello scoppio, e questo avrebbe potuto causare conseguenze gravi, con lesioni o morte”.
Secondo la Brownlee, chi ha lasciato gli ordigni deve “prendere in seria considerazione le proprie azioni”.
“Hanno attaccato questa comunità. Adesso devono farsi avanti e spiegare quale logica distorta avevano per questi interventi”.

Residents forced to leave homes after small explosion
A number of people have had to leave their homes after a small explosion in west Belfast.
Local people said a device was attached to a gate-post and damaged a van.
When police arrived they discovered a suspicious object in nearby La Salle Park. Army technical officers have been called.
Chair of the Lower Falls Residents Association, Robert McClenaghan is at the scene of the explosion.
“It has damaged a works van, so it was powerful enough to blow a hole in the side of the van,” he said.
“Everybody that heard the blast said they hadn’t heard anything of that calibre in a long long time so it seems to have been an explosive as opposed to some sort of firework.”
Sinn Fein councillor for west Belfast, Briege Brownlee said those behind the devices had shown “absolute disregard for the community”.
“These are viable and dangerous devices,” she said.
“The first pipe bomb was attached to a gallon drum of petrol. The second, which was discovered only minutes later, was outside the home of another resident and is of a similar design.
“Anybody could have been passing these devices when they went off and this could have had serious consequences with injuries or death.”
Ms Brownlee said those who left the devices must “seriously consider their actions”.
“They have attacked this entire community. The need now to come forward and explain what warped logic they had for these actions.”
