Respinto emendamento per bloccare i cori settari

Un emendamento al disegno di legge Justice Bill (Legge sulla Giustizia) per definire i canti settari in occasione di manifestazioni sportive è stato sconfitto. Anche un secondo emendamento per rendere reato essere ubriaco o avere alcool in occasione di manifestazioni sportive è stato annullato.

Un importante parlamentare dell’Ulster Unionist Party ha sostenuto l’inclusione della definizione di settarismo nel Justice Bill sarà utilizzato come modello per altre normative.

Il membro del Policing Board Basil McCrea ha detto: “Quando si fanno le leggi, dobbiamo stare attenti alle conseguenze non intenzionali”.

L’emendamento dell’UUP è stato sconfitto, ma anche il ministro della Giustizia David Ford si è visto respingere il tentativo di rendere reato l’essere ubriaco durante le manifestazioni sportive.

Sectarian chants amendment to Bill defeated

An amendment to the Justice Bill to define sectarian chanting at sporting events has been defeated. A second bid to make it an offence to be drunk or have alcohol at sporting events was also quashed.

A senior Ulster Unionist argued the inclusion of the definition of sectarianism in the Justice Bill will be used as a template for other legislation.

Policing Board member Basil McCrea said:“When making legislation, we have to be careful of unintended consequences.”

The UUP amendment was defeated, but Justice Minister David Ford also lost a bid to make it an offence to be drunk at sporting events.
