Restrizioni a parata a East Belfast. Orange Order infuriato

L’Orange Order ha chiesto un incontro con il Segretario di Stato e con il ministro della Giustiza dopo che la Commissione Parate ha imposto di suonare un particolare inno quado passeranno domenica a East Belfast

La Parades Commission (Commissione Parate) ha ordinato una restrizione alla musica da applicare per tutta la lunghezza di Newtownards Road, da Susan Street fino al cavalcavia di Bridge End, quando gli orangisti passeranno vicino alla cappella di St Matthew.

Solo l’inno “Eventide” potrà essere suonato.

Il Distretto N. 6 sta chiedendo un incontro urgente con il ministro della Giustizia, David Ford, il cui dipartimento dialoga con i Loyal Order e con il Segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord Owen Paterson, responsabile per la nomina della comissione.

Il ministro presbiteriano e cappellano del N. & District LOL, Reverendo Mervyn Gibson, ha commentato: “Non solo non c’è nesso né logica in questa decisione, ma la parte triste è che, a livello locale, l relazioni tra le comunità stanno migliorando”.

Un portavoce della Commissione Parate afferma: “La determinazione relativa al fine settimana rappresenta uno sforzo genuino per conciliare il desiderio della Loggia di marciare e le preoccupazioni espresse dai residenti.

“Nominando un inno specifico, molto conosciuto, desideriamo essere accomodanti con la parata mentre tentiamo di assicurarci che la musica sia sensibile, in un luogo di culto posizionato lungo l’interfaccia, come indicato nel Codice di Condotta della Parades Commission”.

Orange Order hymn tune restrictions

The Orange Order has demanded a meeting with the Secretary of State and the Justice Minister after a parading watchdog ruled it has to play one particular hymn tune as the parade passes a flashpoint in East Belfast on Sunday.

The Parades Commission ordered the music restriction will apply to the length of the Newtownards Road from Susan Street to the Bridge End flyover as marchers walk past St Matthew’s chapel.

The hymn tune ‘Eventide’ is only allowed to be played.

No.6 District are requesting urgent meetings with the Justice Minister, David Ford, whose Department has been dialoguing with the Loyal Orders and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Owen Paterson who is responsible for appointing the Commission.

Local Presbyterian minister and No.6 District LOL Chaplain Rev. Mervyn Gibson commented; ‘Not only is there no rhyme nor reason to this decision, the sad part is, at a local level, relations between communities have been improving’.

A spokesman for the Parades Commission said,

“The determination relating to the weekend represents a genuine effort on our part to accommodate the desire of the local lodge to parade and the expressed concerns of local residents”.

“In naming one specific, widely known and popular hymn, we are accommodating the parade while attempting to ensure that the music is sensitive, at an interface location past a place of worship, as indicated in the Parades Commission Code of Conduct”.
