Due prominenti repubblicani, accusati per presunti reati, sono stati rilasciati con la condizionale dopo aver trascorso più di due anni in prigione
Colin Duffy, di Lurgan, e Alex McCrory, di West Belfast, erano in attesa di essere portati in giudizio fin dal 2013.
I due repubblicani sono stati rilasciati mercoledì pomeriggio.
La giudice Fiona Bagnall ha acconsentito di rilasciarli con la condizionale a causa del grave ritardo nel portare il loro caso in tribunale.
Le loro condizioni di rilascio includono garanzie per 10.000 sterline, il divieto di incontrarsi tra loro ed il coprifuoco tra le 20 e le 7 del mattino.
Anche un altro repubblicano, accusato di reati simili, Harry Fitzsimons, era stato rilasciato in precedenza.
I tre uomini sono accusati di cospirazione per assassinare agenti della PSNI, possesso di armi da fuoco ed esplosivi e appartenenza ad un’organizzazioen proscritta – l’Irish Republican Army (IRA).
Colin Duffy è accusato anche di direzione di terrorismo.
I presunti reati sono legati ad un attacco armato contro un convoglio della PSNI che transitava per North Belfast a dicembre 2013.
Dopo il loro rilascio Mandy Duffy, portavoce dell’Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association (IRPWA), ha criticato l’enormità di tempo trascorso in carcere dagli uomini.
“Questo è un chiaro caso di internamento per custodia cautelare” ha detto Mandy Duffy.
“Questi uomini sono stati rimandati in custodia superando il limite di questo strumento per 10 volte. È una disgrazia e mancanza di un giusto processo”.
Colin Duffy, Alex McCrory e Harry Fitzsimons saranno nuovamente in tribunale oggi per un’udienza che dovrebbe stabilire se ci sono sufficienti prove per iniziare un processo contro di loro.

Prominent republicans Duffy and McCrory released on bail after two years
Two prominent dissident republicans facing a variety of charges, including attempting to murder police officers, have been released on bail after spending more than two years in prison.
Colin Duffy, from Lurgan, and Alex McCrory, from west Belfast, have been awaiting trial since 2013.
The pair were released on Thursday afternoon.
Judge Fiona Bagnall agreed to release them on bail on the grounds of undue delay in bringing the case to trial.
Their bail conditions included sureties of £10,000 in cash each, a ban on associating with each other, and a curfew from 8pm to 7am.
Another dissident republican who was facing similar charges, 47-year-old west Belfast man Harry Fitzsimons, was released on bail last week.
The three men are charged with conspiracy to murder members of the PSNI, possession of firearms and explosives, and membership of a proscribed organisation – the IRA.
Colin Duffy is also charged with directing terrorism.
The alleged offences are connected to a gun attack on a police convoy in north Belfast in December 2013.
After their release, a spokeswoman for the Irish Republican Prisoners’ Welfare Association criticised the length of time they have been held on remand.
“This is a clear case of internment by remand,” said Mandy Duffy.
“These men have been held on remand for 10 times the recommended limit. It is a disgrace and a lack of due process.”
Colin Duffy, Alex McCrory and Harry Fitzsimons will appear in court again on Tuesday for the continuation of a hearing to decide whether there is sufficient evidence for them to stand trial.
