Un uomo di 41 anni era stato arrestato lunedì nel nord ovest della provincia su richiesta della Garda. Un secondo uomo di 45 anni è stato fermato poco dopo quando si è presentato spontaneamente in una stazione di polizia della Contea di Antrim.
Il consigliere shinner di Donegal Eddie Fullerton fu ucciso dai paramilitari lealisti dell’Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF) nella sua abitazione a Buncrana nel 1991.
I due uomini sono stati interrogati presso la Serious Crime Suite nella stazione di polizia di Antrim prima di essere rilasciati incondizionatamente, ha riferito un portavoce della polizia.
Poco prima del rilascio, il vice primo ministro nordirlandese, Martin McGuinness (Sinn Fein), ha detto di sperare che gli arresti segnino l’inizio della scoperta della verità riguardante l’omicidio “e il susseguente fallimento delle Guards e della RUC nella ricerca rigorosa degli assassini”.

Men held over Fullerton death freed
A 41-year-old man was arrested earlier today in the north west of the province at the request of the Garda. A second man aged 45 was arrested a short time later when he presented himself to a police station in Co Antrim.
Donegal councillor Eddie Fullerton was shot dead by the loyalist Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF) at his home just across the Donegal border in Buncrana in 1991.
The two men were questioned at the serious crime suite in Antrim before being released unconditionally, a PSNI spokesman said.
Just before the releases, Sinn Féin MP Martin McGuinness said it was his hope that the arrests would mark the beginning of the emergence of the truth surrounding the murder “and the subsequent failure of the Guards and the RUC to rigorously pursue his killers”.
