Una decisione della Commissione Parate sulla parata di North Belfast del 12 luglio potrebbe portare ad un grande stallo nella zona di Ardoyne.
Fonti interne all’Orange Order non commentano la ragione per cui è stata fatta richiesta al Belfast City Council di utilizzare i campi da gioco di Ballysillan, ma la Loggia Distrettuale non intendono accettare l’obbligo di rientrare da Edenderry entro le 16.
“Una sentenza della Commissione Parate che ci obblighi a rientrare a North Belfast e oltre gli Ardoyne Shops entro metà pomeriggio non sarà accettata quest’anno – non ci sono possibilità.
“Se la Commissione Parate redige con una direttiva simile, non ci atterremo ad essa”, ha detto una fonte orangista locale.
Negli incontri informali di settimana scorsa, importanti fonti dell’Orange Order avevano detto che la richiesta faceva parte di un “piano di emergenza”, ma non era stato ancora deciso nulla su come agire qualora la Commissione Parate avesse imposto restrizioni alla parata di rientro della Loggia Distrettuale n° 1.
Ma fonti locali ieri messo in chiaro che non avrebbero accettato la decisione di limitare il loro viaggio al tradizionale campo allestito per il 12 luglio a South Belfast.
“L’Orange Order lo scorso anno ha ottemperato a tale direttiva ma quest’anno non sarà così.
“È stato indecoroso e ingiusto e gli uomini non accetteranno di vedersi negato il diritto di unirsi ai loro confratelli e passare insieme la giornata.
“La palla è nel campo della Commissione Parate e noi attenderemo le sue mosse”, ha affermato un lealista.
Una situazione di stallo tra la Commissione e l’Orange Order potrebbe portare ad un pericoloso collo di bottiglia in Clifton Street, la mattina del 12 luglio.
Il più grande Distretto dell’Orange Order cittadino, il n° 6 di East Belfast, quest’anno si recherà a Clifton Street perché è il suo turno di guidare la processione del 12 luglio a Belfast, il che significa che si collegherà con gli orangisti provenienti da tutti i distretti da quel lato della città e da Sandy Row.
I consiglieri unionisti si aspettano che la maggioranza dei consiglieri comunali di Sinn Féin, SDLP e Alliance Party presenti nel Comitato per la gestione dei parchi cittadini respingeranno la richiesta di utilizzo di Ballysillan, creando un pericolo stallo nel nord della città.
“Questa è una situazione molto difficile per la Commissione Parate, si potrebbero innescare una pessima serie di eventi” ha avvertito un orangista.
Twelfth fears over Ardoyne ‘stalemate’
A Parades Commission decision on the north Belfast Twelfth parade past Ardoyne could lead to a major stalemate on the ground.
Orange Order sources won’t comment on the reason why an application has been made to Belfast City Council to utilise Ballysillan playing fields, but local community sources say the District Lodge won’t accept a ruling this year to return from Edenderry by 4pm.
“A ruling from the PC to be back in north Belfast and beyond the Ardoyne shops by mid-afternoon won’t be accepted this year — not a chance.
“If the Parades Commission comes up with a similar directive, we won’t comply with it,” one local source said.
In off-the-record briefings last week, senior Orange Order sources said that the application was part of a “contingency plan” but wouldn’t elaborate on what it would do if the Parades Commission imposed restrictions on the return parade of No. 1 District Lodge.
But local sources yesterday made it clear that they wouldn’t accept a decision to curtail their trip to the traditional Twelfth field in south Belfast.
“The Orange Order complied with that directive last year but it won’t take it this year.
“It was undignified and unfair and men won’t accept being denied their right to join their fellow brethren and spend the day there.
“The ball is in the Parades Commission’s court and we will wait to see what move it makes,” one loyalist said.
A stalemate between the Commission and the Orange Order could lead to a dangerous bottleneck in Clifton Street on the morning of the Twelfth.
The Order’s largest district, No. 6 from east Belfast, will travel to Clifton Street this year because it is its turn to head the Belfast Twelfth procession, which means it will link up with Orangemen from all the Districts from that side of the city and Sandy Row.
Unionist city councillors expect that a majority of Sinn Fein, SDLP and Alliance councillors on the 20-strong Parks and Leisure Committee will reject the request to use Ballysillan creating a dangerous stalemate situation in the north of the city.
“This is very tricky for the Parades Commission, if it gets it badly wrong this year it could spark a very bad situation,” one Orangeman warned.
