Ritratto di Ian Paisley inaugurato nel Palazzo del Parlamento

Un ritratto del Rt Hon Lord Bannside parlamentare di North Antrim (il titolo ottenuto dal reverendo Ian Paisley ) è stato appeso negli edifici del Parlamento di Stormont. L’immagine, che celebra il tempo di Ian Paisley Senior come Primo Ministro, è stato svelato oggi dallo Speaker dell’Assemblea dell’Irlanda del Nord, il parlamentare William Hay.

Parlando prima di svelare il ritratto davanti a membri della famiglia Paisley, ai personaggi politici e ai sostenitori, il portavoce William Hay ha detto: “Sono onorato di poter svelare questo ritratto, a nome della Commissione dell’Assemblea e di rendere omaggio a uno dei politici più noti in Irlanda del Nord.

“Lord Bannside ha ricevuto diversi riconoscimenti per i suoi sforzi volti ad assicurare il processo di pace in Irlanda del Nord. Il suo periodo come Primo Ministro è stato ampiamente elogiato per aver dimostrato che la cooperazione e la buona volontà possono essere raggiunte da coloro che hanno diverse tradizioni politiche.

“Questo ritratto è un piccolo segno di rispetto e di affetto che l’ Assemblea dell’Irlanda del Nord ha per Lord Bannside”.

Lord Bannside è stato un membro della Assemblea dell’Irlanda del Nord dal 1998. Il suo storico mandato come Primo Ministro, dopo il ritorno della devolution nel 2007, si è concluso il 5 giugno 2008. Lord Bannside è stato ritratto dall’artista irlandese David Nolan e il quadro sarà esposto al Primo Piano degli edifici del Parlamento, insieme agli altri ritratti dei primi e vice primi ministri.

PAISLEY PORTRAIT UNVEILED IN PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS

A portrait of The Rt Hon The Lord Bannside of North Antrim MLA (formerly Rev Dr Ian Paisley) is to hang in Parliament Buildings. The picture, which celebrates Lord Bannside’s time as First Minister, was unveiled today by the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Mr William Hay MLA.

Speaking before the portrait was unveiled in front of members of the Paisley family, political figures and well wishers, Speaker William Hay said, “I am honoured to be able to unveil this portrait, on behalf of the Assembly Commission and to pay tribute to one of Northern Ireland’s most familiar politicians.

“Lord Bannside has received many accolades for his efforts to secure the peace process in Northern Ireland. His time as First Minister was praised widely for showing that co-operation and goodwill could be achieved by those from differing political traditions.

“This portrait is a small sign of the respect and affection that the Northern Ireland Assembly has for Lord Bannside .”

Lord Bannside has been a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly since 1998. His historic term as First Minister, following the return of devolution in 2007, came to an end on 5 June 2008. Lord Bannside was painted by Irish artist David Nolan and the painting will hang on the First Floor of Parliament Parliament Buildings, alongside other portraits of First and deputy First Ministers.
