il 12 agosto 2010 rappresentanti dei prigionieri repubblicani, rispettati intermediari e dirigenti carcerari hanno negoziato un accordo praticabile e di buon senso riguardante il regime vigente nella prigione di Maghaberry. Si sperava che l’accordo negoziato avrebbe risolto il lungo confronto tra prigionieri repubblicani e dirigenza di Maghaberry.
Tuttavia, nessun aspetto dell’accordo negoziato è stato finora implementato e la situazione a Maghaberry è di nuovo precipitata. Tragicamente, nel trentesimo anniversario dello Sciopero della Fame del 1981, i prigionieri repubblicani sono ancora una volta soggetti a disumane perquisizioni corporali, pestaggi e chiusura nelle celle per 24 ore al giorno, durante la normale vita nell’ala repubblicana della prigione di Maghaberry.
In risposta alla situazione in cui si sono trovati, i prigionieri repubblicani a Maghaberry si sono imbarcati in una dirty protest. Noi, i prigionieri repubblicani del braccio E2 nella prigione di Portlaoise, vogliamo esprimere il nostro sostegno e la nostra solidarietà a tutti i prigionieri che stanno protestando nella prigione di Maghaberry. Chiediamo l’urgente ed immediata implementazione dell’accordo di agosto 2010.
Facciamo pressione sulla gente di tutto lo spettro politico, affinché evidenzino la difficile situazione attuale dei prigionieri repubblicani a Mahaberry e protestino per assicurare l’implementazione dell’accordo nezionato dell’agosto 2010, prima che la situazione peggiori ulteriormente.

Cogús: Statement from Republican Prisoners, Portlaoise
On 12th August, 2010 representatives of republican prisoners, respected intermediaries and prison management negotiated a workable and common-sense agreement regarding the regime in Maghaberry Prison. It was hoped this negotiated agreement would resolve the long-standing confrontation between republican prisoners and prison management.
However, no aspect of the negotiated agreement has been implemented and the situation inside Maghaberry has deteriorated even further. Tragically on the 30th anniversary of 1981 hunger-strike, republican prisoners are once again subject to inhumane internal body searches, physical beatings and an ongoing twenty-four hour lock down currently constitutes life on a republican wing in Maghaberry Prison.
In response to the situation in which they find themselves, republican prisoners in Maghaberry have embarked upon a dirty protest. We the republican prisoners in E2 Portlaoise Prison, would like to express our support for and solidarity with all protesting republican prisoners in Maghaberry Prison. We call for the urgent and immediate implementation of the August 2010 negotiated agreement.
We also urge people across the political spectrum to highlight the plight of republican prisoners in Maghaberry at this time and to lobby and protest to secure the implementation of the August 2010 negotiated agreement before the situation inside Maghaberry deteriorates any further.
