Il portavoce di Republican Network for Unity, Martin og Meehan, ha espresso il suo disgusto per l’intimidazione congiunta di MI5, esercito inglese e PSNI avvenuta a Banbridge domenica 26 giugno contro famiglie repubblicane
Meehan ha spiegato: “Quella che doveva essere stata una giornata istruttiva e piacevole – da Belfast fino alla Kilmainham Gaol di Dublino – si è trasformata in un incubo per gli attivisti RNU e le loro famiglie, dopo che la RUC/PSNI in un convoglio di veicoli ha chiesto al conducente del pullman di fermarsi sull’autostrada A1, appena fuori Banbridge, Contea di Down. Immediatamente dopo essrsi fermato, un certo numero di membri ostili del Tactical Support Group (TSG) sono saliti a bordo del bus e hanno ordinato a tutti i 21 passeggeri di scendere, mentre brandevano armi pesanti, sempre urlando abusi ai bambini terrorizzati.
All’esterno, le famiglie erano circondati da una squadra di cinquanta mebri del TSG, che hanno ordinato loro di non muoversi tenendoli sotto tiro. Alcuni bambini hanno pianto per la paura (il più piccolo aveva appena tre anni) e si aggrappavano ai loro genitori. Un funzionario della RUC/PSNI, ha identificato tre figure in borghese che sono rimasti sulla scena per tutto il tempo in qualità di comandanti. Questi tre uomini preferivano indicare piuttosto che parlare, probabilmente a causa del loro accento inglese.
Tutti, compresi gli anziani ed i bambini sono stati forzatamente perquisiti, hanno dovuto fare il tampone alla ricerca di residui di arma da fuoco ed esplosivi da parte di una squadra forense vestita di tute nere che si è identificata come “esercito”. I passeggeri sono stati anche videoregistrati, fotografati e trattenuti sul ciglio della strada per oltre due ore in base alla “Sezione 24 Antiterrorismo”, una legge molto abusata.
Spettatori interessati e un certo numero di amici che hanno assistito al deplorevole incidente sono stati successivamente minacciati dalla RUC/PSNI. Le madri si sono lamentate per il maltrattamento dei bambini, ma alcuni hanno pianto dopo che la RUC non riformata ha respinto le loro giustificate preoccupazioni. I padri hanno espresso la loro rabbia per l’ingiustificata “operazione di sicurezza” che ha distrutto una piacevole giornata in famiglia. Dopo, naturalmente, non aver trovato nulla sul guidatore e sui passeggeri, i soldati britannici hanno fatto a pezzi l’autobus. Hanno rimosso anche i posti a sedere fissi, ma sono rimasti a mani vuote”.
Conclude Meehan: “Questo incidente vergognoso illustra chiaramente le molestie contro gli attivisti repubblicani e le loro famiglie. Comparare i maltrattamenti brutali di domenica contro le famiglie repubblicane, con il rifiuto dlla RUC/PSNI rifiuto di fermare un pogrom settario a Short Strand la scorsa settimana. Dimostra anche la natura invariata della RUC/PSNI, dell’MI5 e la collusione dell’esercito britannico nelal Sei Contee. La RUC/PSNI non è una forza di polizia riformata – è stata ed è, la stessa forza politica britannica di polizia imposta alla comunità per decenni”.

RNU Disgust at Joint MI5/British Army and PSNI intimidation
REPUBLICAN NETWORK for UNITY Spokesperson, MARTIN ÓG MEEHAN has expressed his disgust at the joint MI5/British Army and PSNI intimidation of Republican families outside Banbridge on Sunday 26 June, 2011.
Mr. Meehan explained; ‘What should have been an informative and enjoyable day trip from Belfast to Dublin’s Kilmainham Gaol turned into a nightmare for RNU Activists and their families, after the RUC/PSNI in a convoy of vehicles demanded the driver of the coach to stop on the A1 Motorway, just outside Banbridge, County Down. Immediately after he stopped, a number of hostile Tactical Support Group (TSG) members boarded the bus and ordered all 21 passengers off whilst brandishing heavy weapons, constantly screaming abuse at terrified children.
Outside, the families were surrounded by a fifty strong TSG team, ordered them not to move at gunpoint. Some of the children wet themselves with fear (the youngest just three years-old) and clung to their parents crying in fear. A senior RUC/PSNI man, identified three plain clothes figures who remained at the scene throughout as those in charge. These three men also preferred gesturing to speaking, possibly because of their English accents.
Everyone, including senior citizens and the children were forcibly searched, swabbed for firearm residue and explosives by a forensic squad dressed in black boiler suits who identified themselves as; ‘Army’. The passengers were also videoed, photographed and detained at the roadside for over two hours under the much abused ‘Section 24 Anti-Terror’ legislation.
Concerned onlookers and a number of friends who witnessed the deplorable incident were subsequently threatened by the RUC/PSNI and turned away at gunpoint. Mothers complained at the childrens mistreatment but some wept after the unreformed RUC dismissed their justified concerns. Fathers expressed their anger at the unwarranted ‘security operation’ that destroyed an enjoyable family day out. After of course finding nothing on the driver and passengers, the British soldiers tore the coach asunder. Even removing fixed seating and swabbing them outside but left the bus empty handed’.
Meehan concluded; ‘This shameful incident clearly illustrates the gross harassment of Republican Activists and their families. Compare Sunday’s brutal mistreatment of Republican families, with the RUC/PSNI refusal to stop a sectarian pogrom against the Short Strand last week. It also demonstrates the unchanged nature of RUC/PSNI, MI5 and British Army collusion in the Six Counties. The RUC/PSNI are not a reformed police force – it was and is, the same British political police force forced upon the community for decades’
