La sezione di South Down del movimento Republican Network for Unity (RNU) ha detto che non si farà intimorire dopo il tentativo di bloccare le attività a Drumaness.
Dopo la realizzazione di scritte in sostegno ai POW repubblicani e contro l’internamento, due attivisti RNU sono stati raggiunti da uomini che sembravano sotto effetto di sostante stupefacenti. Gli attivisti sono stati minacciati e poi gli è stato chiesto cosa c’entrano gli hunger striker con Drumaness.
Quando agli uomini è stato intimato di andarsene, prima di allontanarsi hanno scritto sui muri della zona il nome di un attivista RNU che ritenevano coinvolto nella lotta dei POW e degli attuali internati repubblicani. In seguito anche gli stencil preparati dagli attivisti RNU sono stati cancellati completamente.
RNU condanna questo patetico tentativo di intimidazione e afferma chiaramente che non si farà in alcun modo deviare dal mettere in luce qualsiasi problema ritenuto importante. Non sarà permesso a nessuno di insultare gli attivisti di RNU durante il loro impegno politico.
RNU will not be intimidated
RNU in South Down have vowed not to be intimidated following an attempt to bully their activists in Drumaness. Following the erection of stencils in support of Republican POWs and against internment two RNU activists were visited by men who appeared to be intoxicated, the activists were threatened and asked what the hungerstrikers had to do with Drumaness.
When the men were told to leave they went and wrote the name of an RNU activist, who they believed to have been involved in highlighting the plight of the POWs and current internees, over walls in the area, later still the stencils were painted out completely.
RNU condemn this pathetic attempt at intimidation and state clearly we will not be deflected from highlighting any issue we view as important nor will we allow our activists to be insulted for engaging in political activism.
