Robinson cambia i ministri?

Peter Robinson potrebbe rimescolare i ministri del DUP nei prossimi giorni in seguito agli scarsi risultati alle elezioni europee

Lo scorso mese il primo ministro ha indicato che tutti i nove parlamentari eletti a Westminster – tranne uno – lasceranno il loro posto nel Northern Ireland Executive, in una mossa che tende a constrastare il doppio incarico.

L’iniziativa era attesa per autunno inoltrato ma adesso potrebbe essere anticipata, visti i risultati delle elezioni europee rilasciati lunedì.

Sebbene la candidata del DUP Diane Dodds sia stata alla fine eletta, ha richiesto il trasferimento al rivale, il leader del Traditional Unionist Voice Jim Allister.

Il voto del DUP è crollato al 18%, la prestazione più bassa in un’elezione europea, essendo sempre stato il partito più votato in ogni precedente occasione.

I parlamentari del DUP hanno fatto delle speculazioni per le possibili promozioni, indicando come preferiti Nelson McCausland, Michelle McIlveen e Simon Hamilton.

Anche l’ex ministro allo Sport, Edwn Poots, potrebbe tornare al tavolo dell’Esecutivo.

Di tutta la squadra ministeriale attuale, composta da sei persone, solo Arlene Foster non è eletta anche nel parlamento di Westminster.

Reagendo alla riduzione dei voti per il partito, Robinson ritiene che i rappresentanti del DUP siano stato puniti per essere stati troppo assorbiti nel governo del Nordirlanda.

Ha detto: “Non sono uno che blogga con regolarità ma ho letto un commento che ritengo pertinente nel quale si dice che lo Sinn Fein ha molto da imparare dal DUP in termini di governo ma il DUP ha altresì molto da imparare dallo Sinn Fein in termini di comunicazione con la base.

“C’è molta verità in quella frase”.

Robinson to shuffle ministerial pack

PETER Robinson could reshuffle DUP ministers within days following a poor Euro election result.

Last month, the First Minister indicated all but one of nine DUP MPs are to leave their positions in the Northern Ireland Executive, in a move to counter double-jobbing.

The initiative had expected to be implemented later this year but is now expected to be brought forward after Monday’s European election result.

Although DUP candidate Diane Dodds was eventually elected, she required the transfers of rival, TUV leader Jim Allister.

The DUP vote slumped to 18 per cent, its lowest in a European count, having previously topped the poll on every previous occasion.

DUP MLAs being speculated for a possible promotion include Nelson McCausland, Michelle McIlveen and Simon Hamilton.

Former Sports Minister Edwin Poots could also return to the Executive table.

Out of the current six-member DUP ministerial team, only Arlene Foster does not also serve as an MP.

Reacting to the reduced vote for his party, Mr Robinson believes DUP representatives were punished for being too absorbed in governing Northern Ireland.

He said: “I’m not one who regularly blogs but I did read one comment which I thought was pertinent where it said Sinn Fein have an awful lot to learn from the DUP in terms of governance but the DUP have an awful lot to learn from Sinn Fein in terms of communicating with their base.

“There’s a lot of truth in that.”
