Rosemary Nelson Inquiry: i componenti della commissione

Rosemary NelsonLa Rosemary Nelson Inquiry è composta da tre membri, guidata da un ex giudice.

Presidente Sir Michael Morland, giudice in pensione della Alta Corte di Inghilterra e Galles
Ha lavorato come giudice all’Alta Corte di Giustizia – Queen’s Bench Division – tra il 1989 ed il 2004. E’ stato Recorder (un funzionario giudiziario, Ndt) dal 1972.

Nel 1980 ha guidato l’inchiesta sulla morte di un bambino di quattro anni, Paul Brown, istituita dal ministero della Salute e della Sicurezza Sociale.

Ha esperienza diretta di lavoro in Irlanda del Nord. Durante la sua carriera fu membro della Commissione Gardiner del 1974 sull’internamento e ha lavorato per la Corona nei processi del 1973 relativi all’internamento.

E’ stata vice presidente di Community Fund e di Big Lottery Fund.

Tra gli altri posti di responsabilità, ha guidato il Cabinet Office Joint Management Unit del ministero del Tesoro britannico tra il 1985 ed il 1987.

Sir Anthony Burden è l’ex comandante della polizia del South Wales
Ha lavorato come Chief Constable nella polizia di Gwent e come Assistente, promosso poi a vice comandante, della polizia di West Mercia.

Rosemary Nelson death inquiry – who is on the panel?

The Rosemary Nelson Inquiry is led by a three-member panel chaired by a former senior judge.

The panel includes:

Chairman Sir Michael Morland, a retired judge of the High Court of England and Wales.
The inquiry said he served as a judge of the High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division, between 1989 and 2004, having served as a Recorder since 1972.

In 1980 he chaired the inquiry into the death of four-year old Paul Brown set up by the Department of Health and Social Security.

He has had direct experience of Northern Ireland during his career and was a member of the 1974 Gardiner Commission on internment and acted for the Crown in 1973 in internment proceedings.

Dame Valerie Strachan is former chairman of the Board of Customs and Excise.
She was deputy chair of the Community Fund and vice chair of the Big Lottery Fund.

Among other senior posts, she was the Head of HM Treasury/Cabinet Office Joint Management Unit from 1985 to 1987.

Sir Anthony Burden is former Chief Constable of South Wales Police.
He had previously served as the Chief Constable of Gwent Constabulary and Assistant then Deputy Chief Constable of West Mercia Constabulary.
