Saranno ritirate le linee guida per aborto in Irlanda del Nord

L’Alta Corte di Belfast ha stabilito che le linee guida ufficiali sull’aborto in Irlanda del Nord dovranno essere ritirate.

Un giudice ha deciso che mancano chiare e accurate spiegazioni in due aree che si occupano di consulenza e obiezione di coscienza.

L’azione contro le linee per l’aborto è stata portata avanti dalla Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child, secondo cui le regole sono fuorvianti e non accurate dal punto di vista legale.

Le linee guida furono introdotte a marzo dal Ministero della Salute nordirlandese e sono state le prime ad essere stampate per i professionisti che devono provocare l’interruzione di gravidanza.

L’aborto è illegale in Irlanda del Nord, tranne in alcuni casi limite ossia quando la vita della futura madre o la sua salute mentale vengono considerate a rischio.

NI abortion guidelines to be withdrawn

The Belfast High Court has ruled that official guidelines on abortion in Northern Ireland should be withdrawn.

A judge ruled the current advice failed to give clear and accurate guidance in two areas dealing with counselling and conscientious objection.

The challenge to the abortion guidelines was brought by the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child, which claimed the guidance was misleading and legally inaccurate.

The guidelines were introduced by Northern Ireland’s Department of Health last March and were the first published guide for health professionals on terminating pregnancy.

Abortion is illegal in Northern Ireland except in limited circumstances where the mother’s life or mental well-being are considered at risk.
