I quattro membri UVF sono stati arrestati dopo la loro caccia “ai russi” in una casa di South Belfast
Agli investigatori è stato detto che i sospetti UVF stavano gridando “Siamo qui per i russi”, dopo aver bussato con violenza ad una porta di casa.
Durante l’operazione di arresto avvenuta mercoledì sera, un ufficiale ha estratto la pistola e ha sparato un colpo di avvertimento in aria.
Secondo la PSNI, gli ufficiali hanno ricevuto una “telefonata” in cui si diceva che alcuni uomini stavano cercando di entrare con la forza in un’abitazione di South Belfast.
Il rapporto sosteneva un fucile è stato estratto durante il tentativo di effrazione.
Nel corso della susseguente operazione della polizia, un apposito veicolo della PSNI, adatto all’intervento contro persone armate, ha inseguito un’autovettura lungo Donegall Road.
La macchina della polizia ha intercettato il veicolo in fuga, tagliandogli la strada e costringendolo a finire la corsa sul marciapiede.
È stato allora che un poliziotto armato ha estratto l’arma e sparato un colpo in aria.
Tuttavia oggi si ritiene che si sia trattato di uno sparo accidentale.
I quattro uomini in macchina – ritenuti dalla polizia membri della UVF – sono stati arrestati.
Sono stati portati alla Serious Crime Suite della stazione di polizia di Antrim per essere interrogati.
Il Police Ombudsman sta indagando sullo sparo eseguito dal poliziotto, chiedendo ad eventuali testimoni di farsi avanti.
Durante l’operazione di sicurezza e di arresto, la polizia ha chiuso Donegall Road tra il City Hospital e Roden Street.

EXCLUSIVE: FOUR UVF suspects were arrested after they went looking for ‘Russians’ at a house in south Belfast.
Detectives have been told the UVF suspects were shouting ‘we are after the Russians’ when they banged on a house door.
During the incident on Wednesday night, an officer drew his gun and fired a warning shot into the air during the arrest operation.
According to the PSNI, officers received a “telephone call” claiming a number of men were trying to force their way into a house in south Belfast.
The report claimed a gun was produced during the attempted break-in.
During a follow up operation, an PSNI Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) chased a car along the Donegall Road.
The police car intercepted the fleeing vehicle by cutting across it and forcing it up onto the pavement.
It was then an armed cop drew a firearm and fired a shot into the air.
However, it is now believed this was an accidental discharge.
As a result, four men in the car – believed by police to be members of the UVF – were arrested.
They were whisked away to the serious crime suite in Antrim for questioning about the incident.
The Police Ombudsman is now investigating after a PSNI officer drew his gun and fired a shot.
The Ombudsman has appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
During the security and arrest operation, police closed the Donegall Road between the City Hospital and Roden Street.
