Sciolta l’Assemblea di Stormont

L’Assemblea nordirlandese è stata dichiarata sciolta a mezzanotte, portando a termine il primo mandato completo in 40 anni

Molti dei 108 parlamentari non si presenteranno alle prossime elezioni per ricostituire l’Assemblea, compreso l’ex primo ministro Ian Paisley – ora conosciuto come Lord Bannside.

Nel suo ultimo discorso, ha detto che è tempo di allontanarsi dalle cose del passato che tutti adesso deplorano.

Le elezioni si svolgeranno il 5 maggio.

Giovedì lo Speaker dell’Assemblea stava riflettendo sul suo lavoro degli ultimi quattro anno mentre era in procinto di dissolvere le Camere in vista delle elezioni di maggio.

Willie Hay ha ringraziato tutti i parlamentari e ha detto che alcuni di loro hanno fornito un servizio lungo una vita intera.

Northern Ireland Assembly is dissolved for May election

The Northern Ireland Assembly was dissolved at midnight, bringing to end the first full term of devolved power in Northern Ireland for 40 years.

Several of the 108 assembly members will not be seeking re-election, including former First Minister, Ian Paisley, who is now known as Lord Bannside.

In his final speech, he said it was time to get away from the things in the past that everyone now deplored.

The election will be held on 5 May.

On Thursday the speaker of the assembly has been reflecting on its work over the past four years as it is set to be dissolved ahead of an election in May.

Willie Hay thanked all the MLAs who are standing down and said some of them had given a lifetime of service.

The assembly was dissolved at 0001 GMT on Friday ahead of the election.
