Un parlamentare dello SDLP Assemblea, espulso dal partito per i suoi appelli per l’unità dei nazionalisti, è stato reintegrato.
Margaret Ritchie, indignata leader SDLP aveva ritirato il mandato dell’onorevole O’Loan nell’Assemblea e lo privò di due posti occupati nelle varie Commissioni, ma il venerdì ha detto che il parlamentare era tornato all’ovile.
O’Loan rilasciò la sua dichiarazione esplosiva di maggio, senza l’autorizzazione della direzione, ma fu poi costretto a ritrattare la sua proposta perché “non rappresenta la politica di partito”.
“Posso confermare che il mandato assembleare è stato restituita a Declan O’Loan con effetto immediato”, afferma la Ritchie.
“Dalla sua elezione all’Assemblea nel 2007, Declan ha dimostrato di essere un portavoce capace e abile nel portafoglio di finanziamenti e anche personali e di prima classe MLA.
“Egli ha anche lavorato come dirigente responsabile del Comitato Standards and Privileges (Comitato sulle norme e sui privilegi) di Stormont e vice -presidente della cultura, delle arti e adesso occuperà nuovamente quei posti”.
“Il partito è ora in attesa della prossima fase della politica su questa isola e non vi è alcun dubbio che Declan O’Loan giocherà una parte integrante e darà un contributo enorme ad un progressivo e dinamico SDLP”, ha aggiunto.
Nel momento in cui la controversia scoppiò, lo Sinn Fein sostenne che l’onorevole O’Loan,reagì ad un aumento del voto repubblicano nel suo collegio elettorale alle elezioni generali .
Lo Sinn Fein ha detto che lo SDLP rischiava di perdere la sua sede di North Antrim alle prossime elezioni di maggio per Stormont.

SDLP reinstates ousted MLA
A leading SDLP Assembly member ousted from the party over his calls for nationalist unity has been reinstated.
The outraged SDLP leader Margaret Ritchie withdrew the party whip from Mr O’Loan at the Assembly and stripped him of two committee posts he held, but on Friday she said he was being returned to the fold.
Mr O’Loan issued his explosive statement in May, without clearance from the leadership, but was subsequently forced to issue a retraction which noted his proposal “does not represent established party policy”.
“I can confirm that the SDLP Parliamentary/Assembly whip has been restored to Declan O’Loan with immediate effect”, Ms Ritchie said.
“Since his election to the Assembly in 2007, Declan has proved to be an able and adept spokesperson in the finance and personnel portfolio and first-class constituency MLA in North Antrim.
“He has also served as a diligent chair of the Assembly’s standards and privileges committee and vice-chair of the culture, arts and leisure scrutiny committee and will resume both these roles”
“The party is now looking forward to the next phase of politics on this island and there is no doubt that Declan O’Loan will play an integral part in and make a huge contribution to a progressive and dynamic SDLP”, she added.
At the time that the dispute first erupted Sinn Fein claimed Mr O’Loan was reacting to an increase in the republican vote in his constituency in the general election.
Sinn Fein said the SDLP was in danger of losing its North Antrim Assembly seat in next May’s election to the Stormont legislature.
