Serie di attacchi contro abitazioni a West Belfast

Si temono nuovi attacchi contro le abitazioni nella zona di Broadway, West Belfast, che potrebbero portare alle scene di violenza dello scorso anno

Durante la scorsa notte cinque abitazioni sono state attaccate con lancio di mattoni attraverso le finestre.

L’operatore comunitario Colin Patten afferma che la gente della zona vive nella paura.

“Sono spaventati e temono che qualcosa possa essere lanciato attraverso la finestra, perché non sanno cosa può accadere”.

L’anno scorso esplosero disordini alla rotonda di Broadway e si teme che questi attacchi alimentino altri scontri.

“Le tensioni sono alte e dobbiamo calmare la gente, riassicurandola che stiamo facendo del nostro meglio per fermare gli attacchi”, ha concluso.

Spate of attacks on west Belfast homes

It is feared a spate of attacks on homes in the Broadway area of west Belfast may lead to a repeat of violent scenes witnessed in the area last year.

Five homes including a pensioner’s property were targeted in overnight attacks after bricks were thrown through windows.

Local community worker Colin Patten says people in the area are living in fear.

“They are scared and fearful of anything coming through the window because they don’t know what is going to be next”.

Last year troubled flared at the roundabout at Broadway and it is feared these latest attacks will trigger more trouble.

“Tensions are high and we need to calm people and reassure them that we are doing our best to stop it”, he said.
