Le donne si trovavano in un’abitazione nella zona di Ballymagroarty quando sette colpi di arma da fuoco sono stati sparati contro di essa.
La sparatoria ha avuto luogo in Merriman Court, poco dopo le 12.
Un portavoce della PSNI ha riferito che due persone erano a casa al momento dell’attacco, ma non ci sono voci di ferimenti. Ieri si potevano vedere pannelli ricoprire le finestre anteriori della casa.
Mark H Durkan, consigliere SDLP della zona, ha detto che i responsabili non si preoccupano per le vite umane.
“Questo è un atto deprecabile e lo condanno senza esitazioni”, ha detto. “Avremmo potuto trovarci con due morti.
“Sfortunatamente c’è gente che ritiene l’uso di armi da fuoco come un’accettabile parte della società. Per fortuna la grande maggioranza della popolazione è in disaccordo.
“Le armi da fuoco non hanno posto nella nostra società e dovrebbero essere tolte a coloro che pensano di avere il diritto di utilizzarle contro membri della comunità”.
Ha proseguito Durkan: “Sono contento che nessuno sia rimasto ferito e spero le vittime si riprendano velocemente da questa brutta esperienza.
“Chiedo a chiunque abbia informazioni sull’incidente di fornirle alla polizia”.
Il consigliere shinner Billy Page parla di “sciagurato attacco contro l’intera comunità”.
Ha affermato che “nessuno dovrebbe sparare contro una casa o minacciare un’intera comunità. Abbiamo un’intera comunità spaventata”.
Gli investigatori chiedono a chiunque abbia informazioni sull’attacco di contattarli.
Pair escape injury after seven shots are fired at house
The women were in a house in the Ballymagroarty area of the city when up to seven shots were fired at it.
The shooting took place at Merriman Court shortly after 12am yesterday morning.
A PSNI spokesman said two people were in the house at the time of the attack, but there were no reports of injuries. Boarded up windows could be seen at the front of the property yesterday.
An SDLP councillor for the area, Mark H Durkan, said those responsible had no concern for human life.
“This is a despicable act and I condemn it without question,” he said. “We could easily be waking up to a double fatality.
“Unfortunately there are people who see the use of firearms as an acceptable part of society. Thankfully the large majority of people disagree.
“Firearms have no place in our society and should be taken away from those who think they have the right to use them on other members of the community.”
Mr Durkan added: “I’m glad no-one was injured during the shooting and I wish the victims a speedy recovery from their ordeal.
“I urge anybody with information regarding the incident to pass it to the police.”
Sinn Fein councillor Billy Page said it was “a disgraceful attack on the whole community”.
He said: “Nobody should be firing shots into a home or even threatening a whole community. We have a whole community that has been frightened.”
