I colloqui sul trasferimento dei poteri di polizia e giustizia sono alla fine senza aver raggiunto alcun accordo, secondo lo Sinn Fein
L’opzione di far dimettere Martin McGuinness dal posto di vice primo ministro a Stormont sarà sul tavolo dell’incontro di Dublino. La decisione di far collassare l’Esecutivo, potrebbe portare a elezioni anticipate per l’Assemblea.
McGuinness ha in precedenza incontrato il Segretario di Stato Ombra Owen Paterson per discutere dell’instabilità politica. Paterson ha altresì incontrato la primo ministro ad interim Arlene Foster nella giornata di giovedì. Si è saputo che i rappresentanti dei governi inglese e irlandese sono stati coinvolti in “frenetiche telefonate” nel tentativo di ottenere un accordo.
Lo Sinn Fein riferisce di aver informato il DUP che l’attuale giro di colloqui era finito mercoledì sera, per quanto riguardava il partito. Nella risposta, il DUP ha affermato che i suoi rappresentanti del partito avevano atteso a Stormont, nella giorata di giovedì, ma nessun negoziatore shinner si è mostrato.
Il partito repubblicano afferma che il DUP sapeva dell’indisponibilità dei propri rappresentanti per colloqui da compiere giovedì e venerdì. Lo Sinn Fein rivela che i colloqui hanno vacillato sulla questione delle parate e sullo smantellamento dell Parades Commission (Commissione Parate).
Tuttavia, nel corso di venerdì, il parlamentare del DUP Gregory Campbell ha detto che il suo partito richiede “prodotto prima di poter eseguire alcun progresso.
Lo Sinn Fein ha anche concluso affermando come “le porte restano aperte” per i colloqui, ma il leader dell’Alliance Party, David Ford, ha rimproverato entrambi i partiti, dicendo che i politici hanno bisogno “di crescere e raggiungere una sistemazione”.
Ford ha anche detto che il processo “sta scivolando verso una crisi”.
Justice talks over without a deal-Sinn Féin
TALKS on the devolution of policing and justice are at an end without a deal being struck-according to Sinn Féin.
The option of pulling Londonderry’s Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness out of Stormont will be on the table at that meeting in Dublin. Should the decision to collapse the Power Sharing Executive collapse, it is possible that it would trigger a snap Assembly election.
Mr McGuinness had earlier met with the Shadow Secretary of State Owen Paterson to discuss political instability. Mr Paterson had met Acting First Minister Arlene Foster on Thursday. It is also understood that representatives of both the British and Irish governments had been involved in what have described in some quarters as “frenetic phone calls” in an attempt to rescue a deal.
Sinn Féin have claimed that they informed the DUP that the current round of talks were over on Wednesday night as far as they were concerned. In a counter claim, the DUP said that party representatives had waited at Stormont on Thursday, but no Sinn Féin negotiators had turned up.
The republican party claim that the DUP knew that none of their representatives were available for talks either on Thursday or Friday. Sinn Féin claim the talks have faltered over the issues of parading and the scrapping of the Parades Commission.
However, earlier on Friday, DUP MP Gregory Campbell said that his party required “product” before progress could be made.
Sinn Féin have also said that the “door remains open” on talks, but Alliance leader David Ford chided both parties and said politicians needed to “grow up and reach an accomodation.”
Mr Ford also said the process “was sliding towards a crisis.”
