Sinn Fein difende la scelta dei candidati per elezioni di Stormont

Lo Sinn Fein ha difeso la sua decisione di presentare quattro parlamentari di Westminster come candidati per le elezioni dell’Assemblea del 2011

Il partito ha detto che intende terminare la pratica del doppio incarico tra Stormont e Westminster ma non in questo momento.

Il DUP sarebbe l’unico partito ad affrontare il problema. Ma il parlamentare dello Sinn fein per South Belfast, Alex Maskey, afferma che il suo partito ha agito correttamente.

Maskey stesso si è dimesso dal Belfast City Council (Consiglio della città di Belfast) dopo 27 anni.

“Tra il governo locale e l’Assemblea non ci saranno mai doppi incarichi”, ha affermato.

“Abbiamo alcuni parlamentari (a Westminster) che lo sono anche a Stormont e ci stiamo impegnando per mettere fine a questo fatto”.

Sinn Fein has defended its decision to field four of its MPs in next year’s assembly elections.

The party said it would phase out the practice of double jobbing between Stormont and Westminster but not yet.

The DUP said it was the only party moving on the issue. But Sinn Fein MLA for south Belfast Alex Maskey said his party had acted swiftly.

He said he, himself, had just resigned from the city council after 27 years.

“Between local government and the assembly, there will be nobody double jobbing at all,” he said.

“We have a number of MPs who are currently MLAs as well and we are committed to bringing that to an end.
