I vandali hanno dipinto slogan in sostegno all’inflessibile gruppo sul Republican Plot nel cimitero di Milltown, nella notte tra mercoledì e giovedì.
Ieri due monumenti recavano ancora la scritta “C18”.
Il parlamentare dello Sinn Fein Paul Maskey ha detto: “Nella notte, slogan settari e razzisti, insieme a graffiti del Combat 18, sono stati imbrattati sul Republican Plot nel cimitero. Seri danni sono stati provocati alle tombe”.
Uno dei monumenti commemora i repubblicani irlandesi che combatterono tra le fila degli anti-fascisti nella guerra civile spagnola ed un altro “chi lottò e morì per affermare una repubblica socialista del Workers Party”.
Il consigliere Jim Rodgers, Ulster Unionist Party, ha condannato i graffiti. “E’ assolutamente deplorevole. E’ una cosa orribile attaccare qualsiasi proprietà, ma nel caso di un cimitero è vergognoso, sconvolgente e disgustoso”, ha riferito.
“I morti dovrebbero riposare in pace. Sono infuriato di sentire quello che è avvenuto nel cimitero di Milltown.
“Non importa dove accadono i comportamenti asociali – sono sempre sbagliati”.
La polizia riferisce che i vandalismi non sono stati riportati a loro ma seguiranno qualsiasi dettaglio verrà loro fornito.
Combat 18
Combat 18 (o C18) è l’ala armata dell’organizzazione razzista neo-nazista britannica Blood & Honour. Il coinvolgimento di Combat 18 nella morte di alcuni immigranti è stato ampiamente sospettato e altri membri sono coinvolti in una sanguinosa guerra civile interna al gruppo. Il “18” nel suo nome è comunemente usato dai gruppi neo-nazisti, ed è preso dalle iniziali di Adolf Hitler: A e H sono la prima e la ottava lettera dell’alfabeto latino. Gli appartenenti a Combat 18 non possono entrare nel British Prison Service e nella Polizia.

IRA graves daubed with fascist graffiti
Vandals painted slogans in support of the hardline group in the republican plot at Milltown cemetery on Wednesday night.
Two monuments were yesterday afternoon still emblazoned with ‘C18’.
Sinn Fein Assembly member Paul Maskey said: “Overnight, racist and sectarian slogans, along with Combat 18 graffiti, were daubed on the republican plot in the cemetery. A considerable amount of damage has been done to the graves.”
One of the monuments commemorates Irish republicans who fought on the anti-fascist side in the Spanish civil war and the other those “who struggled and died for the establishment of a socialist republic by the Workers Party”.
Ulster Unionist councillor Jim Rodgers condemned the graffiti. “This is absolutely deplorable. It’s bad enough attacking any property, but whenever it’s a cemetery, its disgraceful, appalling and sickening,” he said.
“The dead should be able to rest in peace. I am angry at hearing that this has happened in Milltown cemetery.
“It doesn’t matter where anti-social behaviour is happening — it is always wrong.”
Police said the vandalism had not been reported to them but said they would follow up any details they were given.
Combat 18
Combat 18 (or C18) is the “armed wing” of the racist British neo-Nazi organisation Blood & Honour. Combat 18’s involvement has been suspected in numerous deaths of immigrants and other members involved in a bloody civil war inside the group. The “18” in its name is commonly used by neo-Nazi groups, and is derived from the initials of Adolf Hitler; A and H are the first and eighth letters of the Latin alphabet. Members of Combat 18 are barred from joining the British Prison Service and the Police.
