“Fondamentali membri PIRA [Provisional IRA] sono consci che alcune testimonianze rilasciate al tribunale sono deliberatamente false e rilasciate per portarlo ad una rapida conclusione”, è stato detto in tribunale ieri. Quella informazione di intelligence è stata ottenuta dalla PSNI negli ultimi 12 mesi, ha spiegato il Soprintendente Capo Roy McComb. Il tribunale è stato istituito per indagare sulle denunce di collusione di membri della Garda riguardo alla morte di due ufficiali della RUC, il Soprintendente Capo Harry Breen e il Soprintendente Bob Buchanan.
“L’intelligence è considerata attendibile, credibile ed accurata”, ha affermato McComb, presentando il sommario dei risultati ai membri del pannello d’inchiesta.
I membri dei Provisional IRA erano “preoccupati che la testimonianza di individui associati alla PIRA potesse portate alla scoperta di altro materiale”, si legge nel sommario.
False evidence given to Smithwick Tribunal, PSNI say
“Key PIRA [Provisional IRA] members are aware that some testimony to the tribunal is deliberately false and is intended to bring it to an early conclusion,” the tribunal was told yesterday. That intelligence was obtained by the PSNI within the last 12 months, detective chief superintendent Roy McComb told the inquiry, which is looking at allegations of garda collusion in the deaths of two RUC officers, chief superintendent Harry Breen and superintendent Bob Buchanan.
“The intelligence is considered to be reliable, credible and accurate,” Mr McComb said, presenting the summary of the intelligence to the inquiry.
Members of the Provisional IRA were “concerned that individuals associated with PIRA’s testimony to the tribunal will lead to other material coming to light”, the summary said.
