Un venticinquenne di Belfast è stato sospeso dall’Orange Order per aver partecipato ad un riot nel nord della città
David John Nixon ha evitato il carcere e dovrà passare tre anni in libertà vigilata dopo che è emerso il suo ruolo di badante a tempo pieno per la madre.
Al Belfast Crown Court è stato raccontato come Nixon avesse fatto parte di una folla di lealisti coinvolta nei disordini avvenuti a Carlisle Circus il 2 settembre 2012.
I disordini sono seguiti alla parata nazionalista avvenuta nella zona e, durante i riot, le fazioni rivali si sono scontrate e hanno dato luogo a un fitto lancio di oggetti.
Durante i disordini Nixon è stato ripreso dalle telecamente della PSNI mentre spingeva un bidone e faceva il gesto della pistola verso le linee della polizia.
È stato accettato dalla giudice Corinne Philpott che, nonostante venissero lanciate bottiglie ed altri oggetti verso Nixon, il lealista non ha in alcun modo risposto.
L’avvocato difensore Richard McConkey ha detto che Nixon è stato sospeso dall’Orange Order come conseguenza del suo coinvolgimento nei disordini.

Man ‘suspended from OO over riot’
A 25-year old Belfast man has been suspended from the Orange Order after becoming embroiled in a riot in the north of the city, a court has heard.
David John Nixon, from Cosgrove Heights, was spared jailed and placed on three years’ probation after it emerged he is a full-time carer for his mother.
Belfast Crown Court heard Nixon was part of a crowd of loyalists who became involved in street disorder at Carlisle Circus on 2 September 2012.
Trouble flared following a nationalist parade in the area and at one stage during the riot, rivals factions clashed and pelted each other with missiles.
During the riot Nixon was captured on police CCTV pushing over a bin and making a handgun gesture to police lines.
It was accepted by Judge Corinne Philpott that despite bottles and other missiles being thrown at him, Nixon didn’t make any attempt to return the missiles.
Defence barrister Richard McConkey said Nixon has been suspended from the Orange Order as a consequence of his involvement.
