South Belfast: esplosione controllata su pipe bomb

L’allarme sicurezza lanciato a South Belfast dopo il ritrovamento di due oggetti sospetti, uno dei quali lasciato vicino ad un asilo, è terminato

L’ingresso per il Westlink chiuso in entrambe le direzioni per gran parte del pomeriggio di giovedì – è stato riaperto al traffico , dopo che gli artificieri dell’esercito hanno esaminato la scena nella zona di Bentham Drive.

Il primo oggetto sospetto è stato rinvenuto attaccato al muro di cinta della Arellian Nursery School intorno alle 11:30.

I bambini sono stati evacuati nel vicino centro giovanile mentre gli artificieri dell’esercito britannico hanno esaminato l’oggetto, risultato poi non essere sospetto.

Michelle Bostock, UUP, ha detto che sua nipote si trovava nella scuola quando è stato lanciato l’allarme.

“Come gli altri genitori, siamo corsi qui per portare al sicuro i bambini”, ha riferito a Utv. “Ero assolutamente terrorizzata. Molti genitori erano spaventati e scioccati dalla faccenda.

“E’ incredibile quanto avvenuto – sono solo bambini di tre anni”.

Nel frattempo in Roden Street il secondo oggetto sospetto era un componente di una pipe bomb. Le famiglie residenti intorno ad Iverna Close sono state colpite dall’allarme.

Il ministro della Salute Michael McGimpsey ha condannato i responsabili degli incidenti.

“E’ una disgrazia che alcune persone siano così incoscienti da mettere in pericolo di piccoli bambini”, afferma.

“Chiedo agli autori di considerare l’irresponsabilità delle loro azioni, che non hanno alcun sostegno nella comunità. Condanno totalmente questo incidente”.

Translink ha affermato che l’allarme sicurezza ha provocato gradi disagi nella circolazione degli autobus di linea.

Controlled explosion on city pipe bomb

A security alert sparked by the discovery of two suspicious devices in south Belfast, one of which was planted near a nursery school, has ended.

The Westlink carriageway – which was closed in both directions for much of Thursday afternoon – has been re-opened to traffic, after army bomb squad officers examined the scene in the Bentham Drive area of the city.

The first suspicious object was found attached to the perimeter fence of Arellian Nursery School at around 11.30am.

Children were evacuated to a nearby youth club while army bomb squad officers examined the device, which was found to be non-suspicious.

UUP city councillor Michelle Bostock says her niece was at the school when the alert was sparked.

“Like the other parents we rushed up here to get the children to safety,” Ms Bostock told UTV. “I was absolutely terrified. A lot of the parents were scared and shaken up by the whole thing.

“It’s unbelievable that this could happen – they’re three-year-old children.”

Meanwhile in Roden Street, a second suspicious object was found to be component parts of a pipe bomb. Families in a number of homes in the general area and in Iverna Close were affected by the alert.

Health Minister Micheal McGimpsey has condemned those responsible for the incidents.

“It is a disgrace that some individuals can be so reckless to endanger the lives of young children,” he said.

“I would ask those individuals to consider the irresponsibility of their actions which no section of the community supports. I utterly condemn this incident.”

Translink said the alert had caused major disruption to their bus services.
