Due uomini sono stati arrestati durante un’operazione di polizia a Carrickfergus, dopo le denunce di spari nell’area
Gli elicotteri della polizia hanno sorvolato la zona durante le operazioni della PSNI.
Secondo il parlamentare del DUP David Hilditch l’operazione sarebbe deirvata dalle informazioni ricevute dalla polizia.
“C’era un elicottero di sorveglianza, poi sostituito da un aereo, mentre la zona inferiore di Castlemara Drive è stata isolata”.
Hilditch riferisce che i residenti radunati nell’area hanno discusso delle azioni della PSNI.
“Molti abitanti sono preoccupati sul modo in cui l’operazione ha avuto luogo, considerando che c’è una forte presenza di ragazzini.
“Questa zona è stata tranquilla per un periodo di tempo ed è un momento difficile per la comunità di Castlemara che deve affrontare qualcosa che non era avvenuto da molto, molto tempo.
“Vedere queste attività ritornare sulle strade è davvero orrdendo per alcune persone.
“I residenti credevano si trattasse di una importante operazione, ma fino a quando arriveranno i dettagli dobbiamo pensare che alla polizia sia stato richiesto di essere qui”, ha concluso Hilditch.
Il lavoratore comunitario William Cameron afferma che nessun allarme è stato dato per le perquisizioni.
“La polizia ha eseguito un’iniziale perquisizione alla ricerca di segni di spari e di munizioni ma nulla era stato trovato”.
Ha descritto l’operazione di polizia come “un approccio tipo quelli della SAS contro due case”.
“Le gente normale stava svolgendo i propri affari; i bambini erano usciti da scuola”, ha affermato Cameron.
Tuttavia il parlamentare di Alliance Party Stewart Dickinson ha elogiato “l’eccellente lavoro della polizia in risposta alle voci di spari con arma da fuoco”.
“La polizia lavora incessantemente per la sicurezza della comunità e tutti dovrebbero sostenere il magnifico lavoro che fanno”, conclude il politico.

Pair arrested after ‘shots fired’
Two men have been arrested during a police operation in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim after reports that shots were fired in the area.
Police helicopters were spotted in the area surrounding the estate and police say investigations are ongoing.
Local DUP MLA David Hilditch said the operation appears to be in response to intelligence.
“We’ve had a helicopter surveillance which has now been replaced by a spotter plane and an area at the bottom of Castlemara Drive has been sealed off.”
Mr Hilditch said residents who gathered in the area have discussed the actions of the PSNI.
“Lots of residents are concerned about the manner in which the operation took place, considering that there’s a number of young children about as well.
“This area has been quiet for a period of time and it’s difficult for the wider community in Castlemara who have witnessed something that probably hasn’t been here for a long, long time.
“To see that activity return onto the street is pretty horrendous for some people.
“Residents believe it was maybe a heavy handed operation at this stage, but until details become clear we have to take the police were required to be here,” said Mr Hilditch.
Community worker William Cameron said no warning was given for the searches.
“Police conducted an initial search of the area for strike marks and ammunition cases and there was nothing found.”
He described the police operation, which took place later in the evening, as an “SAS approach to two houses”.
“Ordinary people were going about their business; the kids were out of school,” said Mr Cameron.
However Alliance East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson praised “the excellent work of the Police in responding to this report of gun fire.”
“The Police work hard for community safety and everybody should support the magnificent job they do,” he said.
