Un ventunenne è stato trasportato in ospedale dopo essere stato ferito gravemente alle gambe
Una banda a volto coperta è entrata nella casa nella zona di Windsor Place martedì intorno alle 23 e ha sparato al giovane, colpendolo ad entrambe le gambe.
La dona di 19 anni e il bambino che si trovavano nella casa non sono stati toccati.
Gli assalitori sono fuggiti a piedi.
Il parlamentare SDLP John Dallat accusa una banda lealista.
“È una cosa da non credere che cinque uomini armati a volto coperto entrino in una casa a tarda sera per mutilare gli arti di un uomo in presenza di una donna e un bambino”, ha dichiarato.
Reagendo ai commenti rilasciati alla stampa dal Comandante della PSNI Matt Baggott, secondo cui la UVF sta continuando il cessate-il-fuoco, ha aggiunto: “I fatti ci dicono che ci sono ancora «pistoleri» lealisti con non stanno seguendo il cessate-il-fuoco e si comportano ancora da giudice e giuria in posti come a Coleraine”.
“Sono le ultime persone di cui la società ha bisogno di coinvolgere in qualsiasi questione relativa al modo in cui la gente vive o si comporta.
“La vera domanda dovrebbe essere: quando queste persone cesseranno di esistere e quando saremo in grado di costruire una società normale, libera dal male di uomini che entrano nelle case per menomare e forse mutilare gli arti di altre persone, a prescindere da chi sono o da cosa sono accusati”.
Gli investigatori chiedono ad eventuali testimoni di contattarli alla stazione di polizia di Coleraine.

Man seriously injured in shooting
A 21-year-old man has been taken to hospital after he was seriously injured in a shooting in Portrush, Co Antrim.
A masked gang entered a house in the Windsor Place area on Tuesday night shortly before 11pm and shot the man in both legs.
A 19-year-old woman and a baby boy who were also in the house were not harmed.
The masked men escaped on foot from the property.
Local SDLP MLA John Dallat has blamed the attack on a loyalist gang.
“The idea of up to five masked men coming into a house at bedtime to mutilate the limbs of a man in the presence of a woman and child beggars belief,” he stated.
Reacting to the PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott’s comments to the press that the UVF are on ceasefire, he added: “The facts are there are still ‘gun-toting thugs’ loyalists who are not on ceasefire and are still acting as judge and jury in places like Coleraine.”
“These are the last people society needs to be involved in any issue relating to how people live or how they conduct themselves.
“The real question should be when will these people cease to exist and when we can build a normal society free from the evil of men bursting into homes to disable and perhaps mutilate for life the limbs of other people irrespective of who they are or what they have been accused of doing.”
