La polizia è finita sotto attacco da parte di una banda a volto coperto che aveva sparato contro una casa a Derry

I due uomini che si trovavano nell’abitazione di Dove Gardens sono rimasti illesi, quando una banda composta da quattro uomini a volto coperto ha aperto il fuoco, martedì sera.

Alcuni colpi di arma da fuoco sono stati sparati contro la porta di ingresso intorno alle 23.

Dopo la stessa banda è tornata sui propri passi e ha lanciato molotov e altri oggetti contro gli agenti che indagavano sull’attacco.

Un poliziotto è rimasto ferito dopo essere stato colpito da una pietra.

Pat Ramsey, parlamentare SDLP, ha detto che la popolazione della zona è attonita per quanto accaduto.

“Questa è una zona popolata da famiglie, bambini e gente anziana”, afferma Ramsey.

“Le nostre comunità hanno sofferto per l’oscenità e la distruzione della violenza per troppo tempo.

“Le gente è molto chiara: vuole vivere in una società normale. Come rappresentante delle persone di questa città, e parlando per loro conto, condanno totalmente questo attacco”.

Il Chief Whip (colui che indica le linee politiche in assemblea) dell’Alliance Party, Kieran McCarthy ha condannato entrambi gli incidenti.

“Sono eventi spiacevoli. E’ sconvolgente che un agente PSNI sia rimasto ferito dopo essere stato colpito da una pietra durante la violenza. I miei pensieri vano all’agente ferito e gli auguro una rapida guarigione.

“E’ disturbante sapere che due uomini si trovavano in casa al momento degli spari e che questo è stato un evento molto traumatico. Le persone coinvolte in questi eventi devono essere portati in tribunale e faccio appello a chiunque abbia informazioni affinché le consegni alla polizia”.

La polizia deve ancora stabilire un movente per l’attacco.

Police attacked by Derry gun gang

Police came under attack from a masked gang throwing petrol bombs after a shooting at a house in Londonderry.

Two men inside the Dove Gardens property escaped injury when the gang of four men opened fire on Tuesday night.

A number of shots were fired at the front door of the home at about 11pm.

The same gang later returned and threw petrol bombs and other missiles at detectives investigating the attack, it is understood.

One PSNI officer was injured during the violence after being hit by a stone.

SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey said local people were appalled by what had happened.

“This is an area populated by families, children and elderly people,” Mr Ramsey said.

“Our communities have suffered from the obscenity and destructiveness of violence for far too long.

“The people are very clear in their desire to live in a normal society. As a representative of the people of this city, and speaking on their behalf, I totally condemn the attack.”

Alliance Chief Whip Kieran McCarthy has condemned the incidents.

“These were despicable events. It is appalling that a PSNI officer was injured after being hit by a stone during the violence. My thoughts are with the officer and I wish them a speedy recovery.

“It is deeply troubling that two men were in the house at the time of the shooting and this must have been a very traumatic event. Those involved in these events must be brought to justice and I appeal to anyone with information to contact police immediately.”

Police have said a motive for the shooting has yet to be established and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
