Uomini armati e a volto coperto hanno detto ad un tassista di aver piazzato una bomba sulla sua vettura e lo hanno costretto a trasportarla davanti al tribunale
I residenti della zona sono stati costretti a trascorrere la notte fuori dalle loro case, mentre l’area veniva cordonata. Questa mattina l’allarme è cessato.
Quattro uomini, due dei quali sarebbero stati armati di pistole, si sono avvicinati al tassista intorno alle 23 di venerdì mentre arrivava in Townsend Street, a Strabane, per una chiamata.
Il consigliere shinner Danny Breslin ha detto: “E’ terribile pensarci – sono sicuro (il tassista) sarà traumatizzato per molto tempo.
“Non vogliamo questi allarmi bomba spaventino, blocchino il traffico e impediscano alle persone di fare i loro affari”.
La polizia ha detto che alcune bottiglie incendiarie sono state lanciate contro gli agenti in Meeting House Street intorno alle 1:30. Nessuno è rimasto ferito.
Un portavoce della PSNI dice che hanno ricevuto denunce di giovani a volto coperto nella zona di Carlton Drive.

Taxi driver told to bring ‘bomb’
Armed and masked men in Strabane told a taxi driver they had put a bomb in his car and ordered him to bring it to the town’s courthouse.
Residents living nearby spent the night out of their homes as the area was cordoned off. The alert has now ended.
Four men, two believed to be carrying handguns, approached the taxi driver at about 2300 BST on Friday as he arrived for a job at Townsend Street.
Sinn Fein councillor Danny Breslin said: “It’s horrific to think about it – I’m sure he’ll be traumatised for a long time.
“We don’t want these random bomb scares, disrupting traffic and stopping people from going about their business.”
Police said a number of petrol bombs were thrown at officers in Meeting House Street at about 0130 BST. It is thought no-one was injured.
A police spokesman said reports were also received of a group of masked youths in the Carlton Drive area of the town.
