Un lavoratore comunitario è stato salutato oggi (l’articolo è del 17 luglio, Ndt) come un eroe dopo aver affrontato i rivoltosi che attaccarono il treno a Lurgan il 12 luglio.
L’orrore della vicenda è emersa ieri quando Iarnrod Eireann ha confermato che alcuni bagagli erano stati inzuppati nel tentativo di bruciare circa 60 persone.
Un video dove si vedevano valigie gettate giù dal treno hanno portato inizialmente gli investigatori a credere che venissero rubati.
Tuttavia, è emerso adesso che un lavoratore comunitario ha rischiato la vita per rimuovere i bagagli intrisi di benzina, la maggior parte dei quali appartenenti a boy scout.
“Alcuni sono stati cosparsi (di benzina) ed alcuni sono state bruciati”, ha spiegato un portavoce di Irish Rail.
“Stavano cercando di mandare in fiamme la cabina di guida e hanno anche versato benzina su alcune delle pesanti borse e bagagli”.
Steven Moutrey, DUP, ha detto, “ma (senza) l’intervento di un lavoratore comunitario lunedì ci sarebbe stato un omicidio di massa”.
Oggi un eroico lavoratore comunitario ha raccontato come ha affrontato la folla violenta e ha cercato di avvisare le persone a bordo del treno del pericolo in corso. L’uomo, identificato solo come John, ha detto a UTV come ha fronteggiato un uomo mascherato mentre i rivoltosi erano intenti a provare ad uccidere tutti i 55 passeggeri.
“Gli ho detto che c’erano donne e bambini a bordo del treno, ha detto «f*****lo a loro, che brucino»”, ha ricordato. Avendo di fronte un uomo a volto coperto, con un tamburo cinque gallone in mano, John entrò nella cabina del conducente.
“Mi sono mosso da lì attraverso la carrozza e ho cominciato ad urlare alle persone perché qualcuno mi gridò che stavano andando ad incendiare il treno sul fuoco.
Irish Rail ha detto che un’indagine è in corso, ma il portavoce non ha parlato delle azioni eroiche del lavoratore comunitario.
Twelfth rioters doused train luggage in petrol during ‘mass murder bid’
A community worker was hailed a hero today after confronting rioters who attacked the train in Lurgan on July 12.
The full horror of the incident emerged yesterday as Iarnrod Eireann confirmed that some pieces of luggage were soaked in an attempt to burn up to 60 people alive.
Footage showing bags being thrown off the train initially led investigators to believe they were being stolen.
However, it has now emerged that a community worker risked his life to remove the petrol-soaked bags, most of which belonged to boy scouts.
“Some were doused and some were burned,” explained an Irish Rail spokesperson.
“They were trying to set the driver’s cab on fire and they also poured petrol on to some of the heavy bags and luggage.”
Steven Moutrey DUP said; “But for the work of a community worker on Monday there could have been mass murder.”
Today, a hero community worker told how he confronted the vicious mob and tried to alert those on board the train to the danger. The man, identified only as John, told UTV how he confronted a masked man as rioters were intent on killing all 55 passengers.
“I told him that there were women and children on the train, he said ‘f them, let them burn’,” he recalled. Having confronted the masked man, who had a five galloon drum in his hand, John got into the driver’s carriage.
“I move from there through the carriage and started to shout at the people because somebody shouted to me that they were going to set the train on fire. They just couldn’t comprehend what was going on.”
Irish Rail said that an investigation is ongoing but the spokesperson was unaware of the community worker’s heroic actions.
