Tifosi di calcio contro la “nauseante” presenza del BNP a Belfast

I tifosi di calcio si sono scagliati contro la presenza del gruppo di estrema destra, che ha usato l’incontro del fine settimana a East Belfast per cercare sostegno.

Un parlamentare della zona ha definito “nauseante” la presenza del BNP all’incontro tra Glentoran e Glenavon all’Oval.

Un piccolo gruppo di sostenitori del dei sostenitori del BNP si sono radunati fuori dallo stadio con cartelli che chiedevano il ritiro dei soldati britannici dal Medio Oriente. Hanno anche distribuito volantini e fatto firmare una petizione.

Robin Newton, parlamentare del DUP, ha affermato che i tifosi volevano assistere ad una partita di calcio, non dover vedere il “messaggio d’odio” del BNP.

“Il Glentoran Football Club ha una tadizione generale di attirare una vasta gamma di tifosi e calciatori”, ricorda.

“Penso che la presenza del BNP sia una sorta di campagna per aumentare il loro nauseante profilo (politico)”.

Il BNP parla di successo dell’iniziativa e dicono che sono stati accolti a “braccia aperte”.

“Ogni persona passata davanti a noi ci ha mostrato il proprio sostegno, firmando le petizioni, prendendo i volantini e suonando le loro trombe, provando che il BNP è molto popolare qui”, rivela Tom Gower, segretario alle sottoscrizioni e inchieste del BNP.

Un portavoce del Glentoran Community Trust contesta le affermazioni del partito.

“Molta gente ha riferito di aver firmato la petizione senza comprendere che era legata al BNP e non l’avrebbero fatto qualora lo avessero saputo”, afferma.

“Se il BNP pensa di poter salire sul carro costruito con il duro lavoro fatto dal Glentoran Community Trust nel corso degli anni, si sta sbagliando di grosso”.

Football fans hit out at BNP over ‘nauseous’ protest at Glentoran match

Football supporters in east Belfast have hit out after a right-wing group used a match at the weekend to try and gain support.

An Assembly member for the area has called the presence of the BNP outside the Glentoran versus Glenavon football game at the Oval “nauseous”.

A small group of BNP supporters gathered outside the grounds with placards demanding the withdrawl of British soldiers from the Middle East as well as handing out flyers and a petition.

DUP MLA Robin Newton said that fans wanted to watch a football match, not to be faced with BNP “messages of hate”.

“Glentoran Football Club has a generational tradition of appealing to a broad range of supporters and players,” he said.

“I presume this BNP presence is some sort of campaign to raise their nauseous profile.”

The BNP hailed the protest a success and said they were welcomed with “open arms”.

“Every person who passed us showed their support, signing the petitions, taking leaflets and honking their horns, proving the BNP is very popular over here,” Tom Gower, the BNP’s subscriptions and enquiries secretary, said.

A Glentoran Community Trust spokesman disputed the claims.

“A lot of people have reported signing this petition without realising it was linked to the BNP and would not have done if they had known,” he said.

“If the BNP think they can piggyback on the hard work that Glentoran Community Trust has done over the years, they are very much mistaken.”
