Torrens Knight perde appello

Il killer di Greysteel Torrens Knight ha perso l’appello contro la condanna a quattro mesi di carcere per aver aggredito due sorelle in un bar di Coleraine

Il giudice David Smyth, del tribunale di Antrim, ha respinto l’affermazione del quarantenne Knight, secondo il quale ha agito per legittima difesa durante una lite nel Blackthorn Bar a maggio 2008.

Knight aveva scontato sette anni in carcere per l’omicidio di otto uomini presso il Rising Sun Bar a Greysteel e di quattro lavoratori a Castlerock nel 1993.

Fu liberato nel 2000 con una licenza di rilascio anticipato, adesso sospesa a causa della condanna per l’aggressione di due sorelle a Coleraine.

Le sorelle hanno affermato di essere state colpite con pugni dopo che Knight aveva detto di avere “un conto in sospeso” con loro.

Ma Knight afferma che le due sorelle lo avrebbero chiamato “un bastardo assassino” e sua moglie sarebbe stata definita “di facili costumi”.

Oggi pomeriggio il giudice Smyth ha accettato l’esistenza di screzi tra la famiglia di Knight e le due sorelle, ma l’uomo avrebbe perso il proprio controllo quando le sorelle lo avrebbero mandato a quel paese.

Gli avvocati di Knight hanno confermato di voler presentare nuovi appelli per ottenere il rilascio dal carcere da parte del Life Sentence Review Commissioners.

Knight non ha aperto bocca dopo la decisione del giudice ma ha alzato i pollici verso i parenti presenti tra il pubblico al momento di lasciare l’aula di tribunale.

Greysteel killer Torrens Knight has lost his appeal against his conviction of a four-month jail sentence for assaulting two sisters in a bar in Coleraine.

Antrim County Court Judge David Smyth QC rejected a claim by 40-year-old Knight from Ashdale, Coleraine, that he had acted in self defence during a row in the Blackthorn Bar in May 2008.

Knight served seven years in jail for the murders of eight people at the Rising Sun Bar and four workmen in Castlerock in 1993.

He was freed from prison in 2000 under an early release licence but that was suspended after his conviction for the Coleraine attack.

The sister claimed that Knight punched them in the bar after claiming he had “unfinished business” with them.

But Knight claims the sisters called him a “murdering scumbag b******” and called his wife a “tramp”.

This afternoon, Monday, Judge Smyth said he accepted there was bad blood between Knight’s family and the sisters, but he said he believed Knight had lashed out at them after losing his temper and his self control when the sisters told him “to f*** off”.

Lawyers for Knight confirmed after the hearing that they were continuing with appeals to have Knight released from prison by the Life Sentence Review Commissioners.

Knight said nothing after the judge’s ruling but gave a thumbs up sign to relatives in the public gallery as he left the court.
