Tre fermati durante Operazione Ballast sono accusati di appartenza a UVF

Tre uomini devono comparire oggi presso il tribunale di Belfast, accusati di reati collegati ad una lunga indagine sulle attività di una banda della UVF a Mount Vernon, North Belfast.

Il quarto uomo fermato è stato rilasciato mentre un rapporto a suo carico è stato trasmetto al Public Prosecution Service.

I quattro sono stati arrestati dal Serious Crime Branch della PSNI, che sta continuando l’indagine, denominata “Operazione Ballast”, iniziata dall’Historical Enquiries Team a fine 2009.

Un portavoce della polizia ha detto che l’Operazione Ballast è “un’indagine lunga e complessa che proseguirà ancora per molto tempo”.

Con le indagini compiute dall’Historical Enquiries Team, sono 20 le persone accusate o il cui fascicolo è stato passato al Public Prosecution Service.

Three charged in connection with UVF gang

Three men are due before Belfast Magistrates Court today charged in connection with a long-running investigation into the activities of a UVF gang based in north Belfast.

Another man has been released pending a report to Northern Ireland’s Public Prosecution Service.

The four were arrested earlier this week by the PSNI’s Serious Crime branch, which took over the investigation known as ‘Operation Ballast’ from the Historical Enquiries Team at the end of last year.

A police spokesperson said Operation Ballast was a ‘large and complex investigation which will continue for a long period of time.’

Inquiries led by the Historical Enquiries Team led to 20 people being either charged or reported to the Public Prosecution Service.
