Tre agenti di polizia sono stati feriti in un’esplosione a West Belfast
Due poliziotti sono stati portati in ospedale – uno è stato subito dimesso, mentre l’altro con serie ferite ad un braccio dovrebbe essere operato nella giornata di sabato.
Il terzo poliziotto coinvolto nello scoppio è rimasto sotto shock.
Brian Rea, presidente ad interim del Policing Board dopo la sospensione del presidente Barry Gilligan attualmente sotto inchiesta, ha condannato l’incidente.
“Azioni come questa non fermeranno la polizia, e chiunque lavori con la polizia, dal fare del loro meglio per fornire un buon servizio e un ambiente sicuro per la gente di West Belfast”.
Paul Maskey, Sinn Fein, parla di fortuna per il mancato ferimento di altre persone.
“Ci sono molti negozi e luoghi in cui mangiare, è una zona residenziale e c’è un club GAA. Siamo stati fortunati che non ci siano stati più feriti”.
Il parlamentare del DUP e membro del Policing Board Jonathan Bell dice che “le azioni di chi ha lanciato la bomba sono ingiustificate e ingiustificabili”.
Anche Alex Attwood, SDLP, ha duramente condannato l’attacco: “Credo che la comunità sia in una specie di stato di shock.
“E’ una situazione assolutamente sgradita e non rappresentativa della popolazione di quest’area”.
I sentimenti di repulsione sono appoggiati anche da Trevor Lunn, parlamentare dell’Alliance Party: “E’ profondamente preoccupante pensare che questi individui abbiano attaccato persone che stavano proteggendo la comunità rispondendo ad una rapina.
“La comunità è disgustata da questi cattivi elementi che trattano la paura e la violenza”.

Officers injured in west Belfast bomb attack
Three police officers are recovering after being injured in a bomb blast in west Belfast.
Two were taken to hospital – one has has since been discharged, while another with serious arm injuries is expected to under surgery on Saturday.
A third officer who was caught up in the attack was treated for shock.
Acting Chairman of the Policing Board Brian Rea has condemned the incident.
“Actions like this will not deter the police, and others who work with police, from continuing to do their best to provide good policing and a safer environment for the people of West Belfast.”
Sinn Fein MLA Paul Maskey has said it is fortunate that more people were not injured.
“There are alot of shops and eating places, it’s a residential area and there’s a GAA club. We’re very lucky that there are not more injuries than there are.”
DUP MLA and Policing Board member Jonathan Bell said that “the bombers’ actions were unjustified and unjustifiable.”
While SDLP assemblyman Alex Attwood has also strongly condemned the attack: “I think the community is in some state of shock.
“This is utterly unwelcome and unrepresentative of the people in this area.”
Those feelings of revulsion are echoed by Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn: “It is deeply troubling to think that these individuals have attacked people who were protecting the community in responding to a robbery.
“The community is disgusted at these evil elements who deal in fear and violence.”
