Un uomo di 41 anni è stato arrestato dagli investigatori che indagano sulla morte di Kevin McDaid
Nove uomini sono stati arrestati in collegamento con la sua morte ed il tentato omicidio del suo amico, Damien Fleming.
Fleming è ancora ricoverato in condizioni critiche in ospedale.
In precedenza, il vice primo ministro ha parlato di mancanza di leadership dei politici di Coleraine in seguito all’assassinio.
Secondo il parlamentare shinner il rappresentante del DUP Gregory Campbell doveva fare di più per far cessare gli episodi settari nella città.
“Condannare la violenza e la morte di McDaid non è abbastanza” ha fatto sapere McGuinness.
Il vice primo ministro ha riferito che il rifiuto di Campbell di parlare con lui in diverse occasioni a Derry nonostante si conoscano da oltre 20 anni è sintomo di un più esteso problema nella società.
“La difficoltà è che questo genere di comportamento è tradoto a livello di base elettrorale e quindi posso tranquillamente vedere da dove giungono i problemi”, ha concluso McGuinness.
Il politici unionisti del DUP hanno condannato la morte di Kevin McDaid ed il primo ministro Peter Robinson ha visitato la famiglia per offrire le proprie condoglianze.
Parlando dopo l’omicidio Campbell ha detto che gli esecutori dovrebbero essere portati davanti al tribunale e che dovrebbe esserci sostegno alla polizia da parte di tutta la comunità.

Further arrest over McDaid murder
A 41-year-old man has been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of Coleraine man Kevin McDaid.
Nine men have been charged in connection with the killing and the attempted murder of his friend, Damien Fleming.
Mr Fleming is still critically ill in hospital.
Earlier, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said there had been a failure of leadership by politicians in Coleraine following the murder.
The Sinn Fein MP said DUP MP Gregory Campbell needed to do more to help end sectarianism in the town.
“Condemning the violence and the murder of Mr McDaid is not enough,” he said.
Mr McGuinness said the relationship between Protestants and Catholics in Coleraine could be improved.
Mr McGuinness said Mr Campbell’s refusal to speak to him at various events in Derry despite knowing each other for 20 years was symptomatic of a wider problem in society.
“The difficulty is that if that sort of behaviour is translated to grassroots level then I can quite see clearly see where the problems are coming from,” he said.
DUP politicians condemned the murder of Kevin McDaid and First Minister Peter Robinson visited the McDaid family to offer his condolences.
Speaking after the murder Mr Campbell said the perpetrators should be brought to justice and everyone in the community should support the police.
