Uomo accusato per la morte di John Harbinson

Un uomo di 37 anni è accusato dell’omicidio del tassista, avvenuta a North Belfast 12 anni fa

E’ stato arrestato martedì dagli ufficiali dell’Historical Enquiries Team della PSNI, nel corso delle indagini per la morte di John Harbinson, 39 anni, che nel 1997 fu ammanettato e picchiato a morte da una banda lealista nel quartiere di Mount Vernon.

L’accusato comparirà in aula nel tribunale di Belfast questa mattina.

Lo scorso mese anche Mark Haddock, noto leader lealista, fu accusato di aver partecipato all’omicidio di Harbinson.

Il caso è uno di quelli collegati alla tristemente nota unità UVF di Mount Vernon che sono in fase di riesame dopo l’approfondita indagine svolta dal Police Ombudsman sulla collusione delle forze di sicurezza con le bande paramilitari lealiste.

Man charged with Mount Vernon murder

A 37-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a taxi driver in north Belfast 12 years ago.

He was arrested on Tuesday by officers from the police’s Historical Enquiries Team over the killing of 39-year-old John Harbinson – who was handcuffed and kicked to death by a UVF gang in the Mount Vernon estate in 1997.

The accused will appear before Belfast magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

Last month leading loyalist Mark Haddock was charged with Mr Harbinson’s murder.

The case is one of a number of killings linked to the notorious Mount Vernon UVF unit that are being re-examined in the wake of a Police Ombudsman’s probe into alleged security force collusion with the paramilitary gang.
