A 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder of financial advisor Geoff Kerr in Templepatrick, County Antrim, last Monday.

He is to appear at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

Two other men held in connection with the murder have been released without charge.

Two women also questioned were released pending a report to the PPS. One of the women had been arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting.

Mr Kerr was shot dead at his home in the old village area of Templepatrick after a struggle with two intruders.

At his funeral at Templepatrick Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Reverend Richard Kerr said he was “full of life and vitality”.

Mr Kerr leaves a widow, Sally, and four sons.

Mrs Kerr, 51, and one of their four sons were in the house in Templepatrick when he was killed in what police believe was a botched robbery.

Mr Kerr was a man “who embraced us with his charisma and who made you feel accepted, valued, special,” said Rev Kerr.

“He would not be pushed into a corner or lie down under a challenge. He was always up for whatever came along.

“He related well to people of all walks of life, from both sides of the community, as I’m sure anyone who knew him will vouch for.

“He had that ability to tune into the wavelength of the person he was speaking to and make you feel comfortable and indeed, that you had known him all your life.”
