Le armi sono state ritrovate venerdì nel corso di un raid della PSNI nel quartiere repubblicano di Ballymurphy
Un uomo di 45 anni è stato rimandato in custodia per le accuse di possesso di armi da fuoco e esplosivi, ritrovati in un nascondiglio.
Kevin Nolan, arrestato a Sunderland nel fine settimana appena passato, è comparso di fronte al giudice distrettuale in connessione con il sequestro di oltre 500 grammi di esplosivo Semtex, due pistole, oltre 200 munizioni e due detonatori.
Le armi sono state trovate dalla PSNI durante il raid di un’abitazione nell’area di Ballymurphy a West Belfast avvenuta venerdì scorso.
Nolan ha stretto il pugno sopra la testa e ha salutato i suoi sostenitori presenti nell’aula del tribunale di Belfast.
Durante il procedimento l’uomo ha parlato solamente per confermare di aver compreso le accuse contro di lui.
Deve rispondere di possesso di esplosivi e armi da fuoco in circostanze sospette e di possesso di esplosivi e armi da fuoco con l’intento di mettere a repentaglio vite umane.
Un ufficiale di polizia ha detto al giudice Peter King di poter collegare Kevin Nolan alle accuse.
Padraig O Muirigh, difensore di Nolan, non ha presentato istanza di rilascio con la condizionale.
“Non avanziamo la richiesta in questo momento ma studieremo la cosa” , ha affermato il legale.
Kevin Nolan è stato rimandato in custodia per quattro settimane. Comparirà ancora in tribunale, in video collegamento dalla prigione, il prossimo 20 ottobre.

A 45-year-old man has been remanded in custody on firearms and explosives charges related to the discovery of a major weapons haul.
Kevin Nolan, who was arrested in Sunderland at the weekend, appeared before a district judge charged in connection with the seizure of over half a kilogram of Semtex explosives, two handguns, more than 200 rounds of ammunition and two detonators.
The weapons were found when the PSNI raided a property in the Ballymurphy area of West Belfast on Friday as part of an investigation into dissident republican activity.
Nolan, with an address at Whitchurch Close, Sunderland, clenched his fist above his head and waved to a number of supporters in the public gallery as he was led from the dock after the brief hearing at Belfast Magistrates’ Court.
During proceedings, the unshaven and balding defendant spoke only to confirm he understood the charges.
He faces counts of possessing explosives and firearms in suspicious circumstances and possession of explosives and firearms with intent to endanger life.
A police officer told judge Peter King he could connect the accused to the charges.
Defence solicitor Padraig O Muirigh made no application for bail.
“There is no application at this time but that will be kept under review,” he said.
Nolan was remanded in custody for four weeks to appear again before the same court, via video-link from prison, on October 20.
