UUP: Robinson sbaglia sulla riunificazione Irlanda

Il leader del DUP Peter Robinson ha sbagliato a dire che il suo partito ha costretto i repubblicani ad abbandonare le speranze di ottenere un’Irlanda unita nel 2016, riferisce Danny Kennedy, numero due dell’Ulster Unionist Party.
Robinson ha detto ad un incontro a Cookstown: “Nessuno parla più di unificazione entro il 2016”.

Ma Kennedy ha affermato che Robinson è in errore in quanto il vice primo ministro Martin McGuinness ha recentemente parlato della possibilità di una riunificazione entro 5 anni.

Prosegue Kennedy: “Ecco cosa disse Martin McGuinness il 10 aprile: «Sto lavorando alla possibilità di unificare l’Irlanda entro il 2014. Sono stati fatti passi importanti nella vita di questa Assemblea, ma ancora più importante, nella vita della prossima».

“Sono sorpreso che Peter Robinsono sia capace di restare impassibile mentre dice ai membri del Democratic Unionist Party che «i repubblicani non parlano più di unificazione dell’Irlanda entro il 2016»”.

Robinson ‘wrong on united Ireland’

DUP leader Peter Robinson was wrong to say that his party has forced republicans to abandon hopes of an united Ireland by 2016, Ulster Unionist deputy leader Danny Kennedy has said.
Mr Robinson told a meeting in Cookstown last week: “Nobody is boasting about Irish unification by 2016 anymore.”

But Mr Kennedy said that was wrong and that Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, had recently said he looked forward to the possibility of a united Ireland within five years.

Mr Kennedy said: “This is what Mr McGuinness said on April 10: ‘I am working towards the possibility that Ireland could be unified by 2014. Important steps can be made in the life of this Assembly, but even more importantly, in the life of the next Assembly.’

“I am astonished that Peter Robinson is able to keep a straight face when he tells DUP members that ‘republicans aren’t boasting about Irish unification by 2016 anymore’.”
