Il volto del leggendario repubblicano è stato imbrattato con vernice gialla nelle prime ore di domenica.
Sono stati riportati altri simili incidenti in diversi luoghi.
Il consigliere shinner Charlene O’Hara ha detto: “Come può una persona pensare di danneggiare il murales di uno dei più grandi irlandesi mai vissuti? Bobby Sands rappresenta ciò che chiunque desidererebbe essere. Egli amò la comunità di Twinbrook e la sua gente. Chiunque ha compiuto questo attacco è il più vile dei vili”.
La consigliera ha detto che l’attacco è in realtà “un attacco contro la gente di West Belfast” e ha chiesto ai residenti di mostrare i propri sentimenti alla veglia in memoria di Bobby Sands.
“Anche la nostra Connolly House e gli uffici di Sevastopol Street e Turf Lodge sono stati imbrattati di vernice.
“Questi centri sono usati per fornire assistenza e consiglio ai membri della comunità.
“Tra due giorni commemoreremo il 28.mo anniversario della morte di Bobby Sands durante lo sciopero della fame.
“Intendo chiedere alla gente di Twinbrook e della zone di Colin di partecipare alla vegli con le bandiere nere che si terrà in Stewartstown Road martedì sera e mostrare il loro disgusto per il vile attacco”, ha concluso la O’Hara.
Anger as Sands mural is vandalised
The face of the legendary republican was daubed with luminous yellow paint in the early hours of Sunday.
It follows in the wake of similar incidents at several locations throughout the West.
Said local Sinn Féin councillor Charlene O’Hara: “How could any right thinking person even contemplate vandalising a mural of one of the greatest Irishmen that ever lived? Bobby Sands represents everything a person should aspire to be. He loved the Twinbrook community and the people within it. Whoever carried out this attack is the lowest of the low.”
Cllr O’Hara said the latest incident was “an attack on the people of West Belfast” and called on locals to show their feelings at this week’s vigil in memory of Bobby Sands.
“Our Connolly House, Sevastopol Street and Turf Lodge advice centres have also been paint-bombed.
“These centres are used to provide advice and assistance to members of the local community.
“In two days time we will commemorate the 28th aniversary of Bobby Sands’ death on hunger strike.
“I would call on the people of Twinbrook and the Colin area to come out on to the Stewartstown Road on Tuesday at 5pm to attend the black flag vigil in Bobby’s memory and to show their disgust at this vile attack,” added Cllr O’Hara.
