Il nuovo murales dedicato a Edward Carson dipinto a Falls Road, West Belfast, è stato colpito da bombe di vernice
Il murales dipinto sull’International Wall in Falls Road, West Belfast, ritrae il leader unionista durante la crisi del 1912, che sostituisce quello storico che ritraeva il primo blanket man Kieran Nugent. Durante la scorsa notte è stato rovinato con il lancio di bombe di vernice.
Grossi segni bianchi hanno coperto parzialmente la figura di Edward Carson. Il restauro è avvenuto immediatamente nella mattinata di mercoledì.
Il murales era stato dipinto per commemorare il centenario della Rivolta di Pasqua del 1916 e gli eventi che hanno portato a tale storico avvenimento.
Edward Carson guidò la resistenza al conferimento dei poteri all’Irlanda (Home Rule, ndt), da sempre osteggiato dagli unionisti presenti nelle Sei Contee. Carson fu il primo a firmare l’Ulster Covenant nel 1912, insieme a mezzo milioni di protestanti e unionisti dell’Ulster.
Il politico unionista, nato a Dublino nel 1854, aiutò la creazione dell’Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF).
La polizia afferma di non aver ricevuto denunce relative all’incidente di West Belfast.
Unionist icon Edward Carson mural paint bombed on Belfast’s Falls Road
A mural of Edward Carson on the Falls Road in west Belfast has been paint bombed.
The mural on the ‘International Wall’ depicting the unionist leader at the height of the home rule crisis in 1912 was defaced sometime overnight, it is understood.
A large white mark covered most of Carson following the attack. Work on Wednesday had removed most of the paint.
The work was painted as part of a display to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising and the events running up to it.
Carson led the resistance to home rule and was the first to sign the Ulster Covenant in 1912.
He also helped establish the UVF.
Police said no report has been made of the incident.
