Vittime della violenza repubblicana chiedono la demolizione di Maze

Victims of republican violence call for Maze Prison to be demolished

Protesta a Maze

Around 20 people who have lost loved ones to republican terrorists staged a protest outside the former Maze Prison this evening, calling for it to be demolished.

William Frazer, Michelle Williamson – who lost her parents in the IRA’s bombing of Frizzell’s Fish Shop on the Shankill Road – and relatives of those killed in the Kingsmills massacre were among the group who dressed for the occasion in construction workers garb of hard hats and reflective coats and posed with sledge hammers to illustrate their point.

Mr Frazer told the News Letter that he could have had more than 100 victims out.

Police monitored the photo shoot.

“I know people will say it is a gimmick, but it’s not,” Mr Frazer said.

“We are pushing for them to delist it and demolish it. If they don’t, it will be the victims with sledgehammers.

“We had around 20 out tonight, we could have had over 100.

“Police threatened to arrest me, saying I am not allowed to go to a gathering. This was not a protest, this was a photocall.”

Earlier this month the DUP withdrew it’s support for a peace centre at the site of the former Maze, leaving it’s future in confusion.

One of the prison’s infamous H block style wings and the former hospital building where many of the republican hunger strikers died remain standing. They have been listed.
