Tre agenti sono rimasti profondamente scossi dall’attacco armato avvenuto nei dintorni di West Belfast, descritto da Sinn Fein e PSNI come un tentato omicidio
Alle 13 di oggi gli ufficiali stavano rispondendo ad una chiamata per un furto con scasso nella zona di Foxes Glen a Dunmurry quando l’attacco ha avuto luogo.
Appena scesi dall’auto sono stati esplosi circa sei spari. Una poliziotta e due suoi colleghi sono rimasti molto scossi per l’incidente.
La polizia ritiene che il rapporto di furto con scasso fosse solo un tentativo di attirare i poliziotti nell’area.
L’Ispettore Capo dell’Area di Lisburn, Darrin Jones, ha descritto gli agenti come “tre persone che stavano solo cercando di svolgere il loro dovere e servire la loro comunità al meglio delle loro capacità”.
“Mi sento molto fortunato e incredibilmente grato che i responsabili di questo attacco hanno fallito nel loro obiettivo di omicidio”, ha aggiunto l’alto ufficiale.
“Avremmo potuto così facilmente avere a che fare con una tragedia inimmaginabile, qualora la persona o le persone che hanno premuto il grilletto fossero riuscite nell’intento malvagio”.
L’Ispettore Capo Jones si è appellato alle persone delle zone di Twinbrook e Dunmurry affinché proseguano nel loro sostegno alla PSNI.
Per il consigliere dello Sinn Féin l’attacco è sconsiderato.
Ha detto: “I colpi sono stati sparati da una valle in una strada abitata. C’è anche una macchina qui, dove un proiettile è entrato dal finestrino e usciti dal sedile. IL proiettile si trova proprio qui sul terreno”.
“Per me, è tentato omicidio di poliziotto.
“Sono contento che nessuno sia rimasto ferito, ma molto facilmente qualcuno in questa comunità – bambini o adulti – avrebbe potuto essere ferito”.
Theresa Villiers, Segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord, ha condannato l’attacco.
“Questi agenti sono stati estremamente fortunati a non essere rimasti uccisi o feriti da un attacco così vile e insensibile”.
Ha aggiunto: “Il lavoro della PSNI è proteggere e servire l’intera comunità. So che continueranno a farlo, nonostante la minaccia rappresentata da una piccola minoranza intenta a danneggiare le comunità e distruggere le vite”.

Shots fired at PSNI on ‘bogus call-out’
Three police officers have been left badly shaken after a gun attack on the outskirts of west Belfast, described by the PSNI and by Sinn Féin as attempted murder.
The officers were responding to a report of a burglary in the Foxes Glen area of Dunmurry when the attack happened at around 1pm on Thursday.
As they got out of their car, up to six shots were heard. The female police officer and her two male colleagues were left badly shaken.
Police believe the original burglary report was false, and may have been an attempt to lure officers into the area.
Lisburn Area Commander Chief Inspector Darrin Jones described the officers as “three people who were just trying to carry out their duty and serve their community to the best of their ability”.
“I feel extremely fortunate and incredibly grateful that those responsible for this attack failed in their goal to murder,” the senior officer added.
“We could so easily have been dealing with an unimaginable tragedy, had the person or persons who pulled the trigger had their evil way.”
Chief Inspector Jones called for people in the Twinbrook and Dunmurry areas to continue to support the PSNI.
Sinn Féin councillor Stephen Magennis described the attack as reckless.
He said: “[The shots were] fired from a valley into a built-up street. There’s also a car here where a bullet went right through the window and came out the seat. It’s actually on the ground at the minute, the bullet.”
“For me, it’s attempted murder on police.
“I’m glad no one was hurt, but very easily someone in this community – whether it was children or residents – could have been injured.”
Secretary of State, Theresa Villiers, condemned the attack.
“These officers were extremely fortunate not to have been killed or injured by such a cowardly and callous attack.”
She added: “PSNI work to protect and serve the whole community. I know they will continue to do so despite the threat posed by a small minority intent on damaging communities and destroying lives.”
