Il lealista afferma che la scoperta di un mattatoio clandestino in un impianto di riciclaggio di combustibile a Newry rafforza la sua convinzione che l’IRA sia coinvolta nello scandalo degli “hamburger di cavallo”
Il parlamentare UUP Robin Swann ha scoperto informazioni sul mattatoio con un’interrogazione al ministro della Giustizia David Ford. Il politico unionista aveva chiesto al ministro il numero dei mattatoi illegali ritrovati all’interno degli impianti di riciclaggio del combustibile.
IL ministro David Ford ha risposto: “Uno di questi impianti è stato scoperto a Newry nell’ottobre 2012. Due rimorchi sono stati recuperati, sembravano essere impianti di riciclaggio mobili presso il sito di una fabbrica di carne non registrata. Non ci sono stati procedimenti giudiziari derivanti dal recupero dei rimorchi. Le indagini dei funzionari per la Sicurezza Ambientale sono ancora in corso”.
Lunedì Swann ha detto al News Letter: “Se un mattatoio illegale si trova presso il sito di un impianto di riciclaggio del combustibile a Newry – per me sono coinvolti i repubblicani”.
Il portavoce dell’USPCA David Wilson ha dichiarato: “Ci sono state moltitudini di cavalli indesiderati. Sapevamo che i cavalli erano stati macellati presso macelli clandestini verso la parte sud nelle Midlands, ma non conoscevamo questo mattatoio di Newry”.
Frazer ha sostenuto che la scoperta di Newry avallava la sua affermazione sul coinvolgimento dell’IRA nello scandalo della carne di cavallo.
“La gente rideva quando ho detto che l’IRA era coinvolta”, ha affermato.
“Ma solo in alcune zone puoi svolgere quel tipo di attività, facendola franca.
“Vorrei chiedere un’indagine più approfondita. Nessuno è ancora stato chiamato a rispondere”.

‘I was right about IRA horse burgers’ – Frazer
Controversial victims campaigner Willie Frazer says the discovery of an illegal abattoir at a fuel laundering plant in Newry vindicates his belief that the IRA was involved in the “horse burger” scandal.
UUP MLA Robin Swann uncovered information about the abattoir with a recent question to Justice Minister David Ford. He had asked for the number of illegal abattoirs that had been found with fuel laundering plants.
Justice Minister David Ford responded: “One such plant was uncovered in Newry in October 2012. Two trailers were recovered which appeared to be mobile laundering plants at the site of an unregistered meat plant. There have been no prosecutions arising from the recovery of the trailers. Investigations by council Environmental Health Officers are ongoing.”
Mr Swann told the News Letter on Monday: “If an illegal abattoir is found at the site of a fuel laundering plant in Newry – to me, it is either republicans or dissident republicans involved.”
USPCA spokesman David Wilson said: “There were loads and loads of unwanted horses. We knew that horses were being slaughtered at illegal abattoirs down south in the midlands, but we did not know about this one in Newry.”
Mr Frazer claimed the Newry discovery vindicated his claim about IRA involvement in the horse meat scandal.
“People laughed when I said the IRA was involved,” he said.
“But it is only in certain areas where you could carry out that level of activity and get away with it.
“I would call for a more in-depth investigation. Nobody has yet been held to account.”
