Willie Frazer e FAIR: la PSNI indaga su utilizzo fondi europei

Frazer rubbishes FAIR investigation

The leader of victims’ group FAIR is rubbishing a police investigation into how it spent tens of thousands of pounds of European funding.

Willie Frazer | FAIRFinancial assistance worth around £880,000 had been offered to the south Armagh group, but was revoked last September.

The PSNI is now looking into the way money was allocated after “major failures” were discovered.

But William Frazer says it is the latest attempt to silence his organisation, which represents victims of IRA violence.

He denies any misspending and, in September, told UTV: “There are admin mistakes, but that’s exactly what they are – admin mistakes.”

A spokesman for the SEUPB had said: “Following a thorough audit of the tendering and administration procedures used by Fair, the Special EU Programmes Body has uncovered major failures in the organisation’s ability to adhere to the conditions associated with its funding allocation.

“The SEUPB is charged with ensuring the proper use of public money and as such has no option but to revoke all financial assistance, amounting to approximately £880,000, that has been offered to the organisation.”

Finance Minister Sammy Wilson confirmed on Monday that the police action had been taken, telling the Stormont Assembly: “When the allegations were made, they were investigated.

“When the investigation turned what appeared to be something which was irregular up, the SEUPB (Special European Union Programmes Body) then referred it to the PSNI and the investigation lies there at present.”
