Il comunicato rilasciato da Willie Frazer, portavoce dell’Ulster People’s Forum, dopo essere stato arrestato e rilasciato dalla PSNI nella sera di venerdì 8 febbraio 2013
Ora alcune persone ancora non credono fino a che punto la polizia qui sia stata infiltrata ma lo dico nuovamente e quanto avvenuto la sera scorsa (venerdì 8 febbraio, Ndt) lo dimostra ancora una volta. Ero a una riunione a Tyrone per discutre dell’Ulster People’s Forum e delle proteste in quella zona, un ottimo incontro mi permetto di aggiungere.
Quando sono andato via ho guidato fino a Coalisland per vedere alcune delle operazioni sul gasolio, per vedere se sono ancora in attività, e ho trovato un comitato di accoglienza – che deve aver ricevuto una soffiata. C’era un trattore a bloccare la strada e quando ho rallentato due auto si sono avvicinate velocemente alle spalle e hanno cercato di mandarmi fuori strada. Poi due ragazzi sono saltati giù dal trattore con i bastoni da hurling e hanno iniziato a picchiare sui finestrini, urlando insulti settari. Potevo vederne altri quattro o cinque sulla strada dietro di me, così ho ingranato la retromarcia e sono andato verso di loro. Poi mi sono spostato fino al bordo della strada e intorno al trattore, con questi ratti lanciati verso il fosso. Ho guardato bene i due ragazzi con i bastoni che hanno cercato di tirarmi fuori dalla macchina – sono abbastanza sicuro siano volti noti della brigata di East Tyrone.
Dopo circa due-tre chilometri sono stato fermato da una pattuglia PSNI. Hanno detto che mi stavano arrestando per guida pericolosa, quindi mi hanno fatto uscire dalla macchina e iniziato a cercare e svuotare le carte del FAIR, delle vittime e dell’Ulster People’s Forum. Quando ho chiesto loro a che gioco stessero giocando, mi hanno spinto sul cofano arrestandomi in base alla legge contro il terrorismo. Ora, quello che mi ha parlato aveva un accento del sud – di Dundalk o Castleblayney, verso Crossmaglen.
In ogni caso mi hanno portato alla stazione di polizia, mi hanno tolto tutta la mia roba di dosso e mi hanno messo in una cella, tenendomi lì per tre ore senza che nessuno mi offrisse neppure una goccia da bere. Alla fine sono arrivati due detective e mi hanno portato nella stanza di custodia. L’unica cosa di cui interessava parlare a questi ragazzi era l’Ulster People’s Forum – chi sono i leader, qual è la strategia. Non potevo credere alle mie orecchie. La PSNI adesso sta dicendo che è una violazione della legge contro il terrorismo scendere in stada e difendere la bandiera del nostro paese con proteste pacifiche – la stessa bandiera per la quale sono morti molti agenti della RUC! Quegli uomini si staranno rivoltando nella tomba, se fossero stati in quella stanza con me, ve lo posso garantire.
Mi sembra che adesso abbiano preso la decisione di demonizzare il People Forum o quanto meno alcuni dei leader. Quelli che non possono essere comprati, li etichettano come terroristi. Nel frattempo non c’è stato un arresto per l’omicidio dell’agente di polizia avvenuto a Dundalk la scorsa settimana, anche se la vettura è stata trovata bruciata in South Armagh.

Now some people still don’t believe how far the police here have been infiltrated in this country but I’ve been saying it this last while and what happened last night proves it again. I was up at a meeting in Tyrone discussing the People’s Forum and the protests in that area, a very good meeting I might add.
When I left I drove down to Coalisland to check out some of the diesel operations, to see if they’re still in business, and sure enough there was a reception committee waiting – they must have been tipped off. There was a tractor blocking the road and when I slowed down behind it two cars came up fast behind and tried to hem me in. Then two fellas jumped down off the tractor with hurley sticks and started hammering at the windows and shouting sectarian abuse. I could see another four or five on the road behind me so I just put the car into reverse and drove at them. Then I wheeled her up onto the verge and around the tractor with these rats heading for the ditch. I got a good look at the two boys with the hurls who tried to pull me from the car – sure enough they were well-known faces from the East Tyrone brigade.
About a mile or two down the road I was pulled over by the PSNI patrol flashing their lights. They said they were stopping me for dangerous driving and they got me out of the car and started searching it and emptying out the papers do with FAIR and the victims and the Peoples Forum. When I asked them what they were playing that they threw me across the bonnet and said they arresting me under the terrorism act. Now the one who actually told me that had a southern accent – Dundalk or Castleblayney, Crossmaglen direction.
Anyway they got me to the station they took all my stuff off me and they put me in a cell and kept me there for three hours without offering me so much as a drop to drink. Eventually two detectives came and brought me up to the custody suite. Now, the only thing these boys were interested in talking about was the Peoples Forum – who the leaders are and what the strategy is. I couldn’t believe my own ears. The PSNI are actually now saying that it’s a breach of the terrorism act to go out and defend the flag of our own country by peaceful protesting – the same flag that so many RUC officers gave their lives for! Those men would be turning in their graves if they’d been in that room with me, I can tell you.
What it looks like now is they’ve taken a decision to demonise the Peoples Forum or at least some of the leaders, the one’s who can’t be bought, to label them as terrorists. Meanwhile there hasn’t been one single arrest over the murder of the guard who was shot in Dundalk the other week, even though the car was found burnt out in south Armagh.
