Woodward deve riconoscere il ruolo di UDA in omicidio McDaid

Il Segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord, Shaun Woodward, deve riconoscere che l’Ulster Defence Association è implicata nell’omicidio di Kevin McDaid, avvenuto a maggio nella cittadina di Coleraine, ha affermato John Dallat dello SDLP.

In un’affermazione separata, una donna di Belfast ha accusato l’UDA di averle devastato la casa, picchiando anche suo figlio di appena nove anni.

Dallat, parlamentare dello SDLP per East Derry, ha detto che è lampante il coinvolgimento dell’UDA nell’omicidio di McDaid, anche seguendo il processo della scorsa settimana per un caso collegato all’omicidio di Coleraine.

Per Dallat anche la polizia ritiene che dietro alla morte di McDaid ci siano i paramilitari lealisti.

Il parlamentare ha detto di aver sollevato la questione per Woodward in relazione al recente comunicato dell’UDA che riferiva l’inizio della distruzione delle sue armi e suggeriva come dovevano essere utilizzati i finanziamenti per le comunità lealiste.

“Ora che la verità è emersa, è importante che il Segretario di Stato si presenti e ci dica dove quelle rivelazioni hanno lasciato il processo di decommissioning, che potrebbe portare l’Ulster Defence Association a ricevere milioni di sterline per sviluppare dei cosiddetti «progetti comunitari»”, ha riferito Dallat.

Nel frattempo una donna il cui figlio di nove anni è stato colpito con una mazza da baseball da una banda che le ha danneggiato la casa a Rathcoole, North Belfast, ha puntato in dito contro l’UDA per l’attacco.

Lisa Moore ha riferito che il figlio Tyler è stato aggredito quando la banda ha sistematicamente distrutto le stanze della sua abitazione, intorno all’1:45 di sabato scorso.

Il bambino è stato trattenuto in ospedale in osservazione. La donna, che non è stata ferita, ha detto di non poter tornare nella casa. Riferisce di non aver ancora capito il motivo per l’aggressione.

La polizia ha fatto appello a chiunque avesse informazioni di portarle nei loro uffici.

NI Secretary urged to acknowledge role of UDA in McDaid murder

NORTHERN SECRETARY Shaun Woodward must acknowledge that the UDA was implicated in the murder of Kevin McDaid in Coleraine in May, according to John Dallat of the SDLP.

Separately, a Belfast woman has accused the UDA of vandalising her house and assaulting her nine-year-old son.

Mr Dallat, an SDLP Assembly member for East Derry, said it was clear following a court case last week relating to the murder of Mr McDaid that the UDA was involved.

He said it was also clear the PSNI believed the UDA was behind the assault that led to Mr McDaid’s death.

Mr Dallat said this raised questions for Mr Woodward in relation to the recent UDA statement that it had begun decommissioning its weapons and in relation to how funding for loyalist communities should be directed.

“Now that the truth has emerged it is important that the Secretary of State comes clean and tells us where these revelations leave the decommissioning process, which could lead to the UDA getting millions of pounds to develop so-called ‘community projects’,” he said.

Meanwhile, a woman whose nine-year-old son was struck by a baseball bat by a gang who damaged her home in Rathcoole, north Belfast, has blamed the UDA for the attack.

Lisa Moore said her son Tyler was assaulted when the gang systematically vandalised rooms in her home at about 1.45am on Saturday.

The boy was kept in hospital overnight for observation. Ms Moore, who was uninjured, said they could not return to the house. She said she did not know why the UDA allegedly carried out the attack.

Police have appealed to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
