Aidan O’Driscoll – soprannominato “la Bestia” – è stato ripetutamente colpito nei pressi della chiesa Blackpool a Cork
A Cork la Gardaí (polizia irlandese, Ndt) ha iniziato un’indagine sull’omicidio di un ex capo di stato maggiore (Chief of Staff) della Real IRA compiuto questa sera da almeno due uomini.
Aidan O’Driscoll, 37 anni e soprannominato “la Bestia”, è stato colpito tre volte da uno o forse due uomini armati mentre camminava lungo Commons Road vicino alla chiesa Blackpool nel Northside di Cork alle 5 del pomeriggio.
Si è appreso che gli assassini hanno sparato tre volte a Aidan O’Driscoll – che nel 2013 fu vittima di un ferimento punitivo da parte dei repubblicani armati.
Secondo le fonti della polizia, due uomini sono corsi dietro a O’Driscoll e almeno uno di loro gli ha sparato.
Gardaí non pensa che gli assalitori fossero a volto coperto e non è ancora chiaro quale tipo di arma o armi da fuoco sono state utilizzate nel corso dell’attacco, cui hanno assistito numerosi passanti che hanno immediatamente lanciato l’allarme.
Aidan O’Driscoll è stato portato in ambulanza al Cork University Hospital, dove ha subito un intervento chirurgico d’urgenza per le ferite da arma da fuoco alla parte bassa della schiena e ai reni. L’uomo è morto poco prima delle 19:00.
Una donna ha detto di aver sentito un botto improvviso seguito rapidamente da altri due colpi altrettanto forti.

Aidan O’Driscoll – nicknamed the Beast – shot three times near Blackpool Church
Gardaí in Cork have begun an investigation into the fatal shooting of a former chief of staff of the Real IRA by at least two men this evening.
Aidan O’Driscoll (37) – who was nicknamed the Beast – was shot three times by one or possibly two gunmen as he walked along the Commons Road near Blackpool Church on Cork’s Northside at 5pm.
It’s understood that Mr O’Driscoll – who was previously the victim of a punishment shooting by dissident republicans in 2013 – was shot in the lower body three times by the gunman.
According to Garda sources, it is understood that two men ran up behind Mr O’Driscoll near Orchard Court and at least one of them fired at him.
Gardaí do not believe the men were masked and it is unclear what type of weapon or weapons were used in the attack, which was witnessed by several passersby who raised the alarm.
Mr O’Driscoll was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for gunshot wounds to his lower back and kidneys. But he died just before 7pm.
One woman said she heard a sudden bang followed quickly by two other equally loud bangs.
