Fachtna Murphy, comandante Garda Siochana, va in pensione

Il comandante della polizia irlandese ha annunciato il suo pensionamento a fine anno, dopo tre anni a capo della Garda

Ha annunciato il pensionamento alla fine della conferenza del management della forza di polizia durata due giorni e svoltasi a Templemore.

Nativo di Timoleague, Contea di Cork, Fachtna Murphy ha servito la Garda per 43 anni occupando tutti i ruoli e le posizioni di rilievo, divenendo il Commissioner (comandante) nel 2007.

Prima ha guidato il Criminal Assets Bureau (Ufficio per le Attività criminali) sin da quando è stato istituito nel 1996, in seguito agli omicidi della giornalista Veronica Guerin e del detective della Garda Gerry McCabe.

Murphy andrà in pensione il 1° gennaio 2011.

Commissioner Fachtna Murphy set to retire

Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has announced that he is to retire at the end of the year after three years as head of the force.

He made the announcement at the end of a two-day garda management conference in Templemore this afternoon.

A native of Timoleague in Co Cork, Fachtna Murphy has served in the gardaí for 43 years in every rank and senior position before he was appointed Commissioner in 2007.

He was the first head of the Criminal Assets Bureau when it was set up in 1996 following the murders of the journalist Veronica Guerin and Detective Garda Gerry McCabe.

He retires on 31 December.
