Il repubblicano della Contea di Louth sta cercando di ottenere una dichiarazione che trasformi la sua condanna per organizzazione di attività terroristiche per la Real IRA in un errore della giustizia.
Michael McKevitt, 58 anni di Blackrock, è stato condannato dopo un lungo processo senza giuria tenuto davanti al Tribunale Criminale Speciale nell’agosto 2003. Nel 2008, la Corte Suprema ha respinto il ricorso.
Gli avvocati per McKevitt stanno cercando di ottenere l’annullamento della condanna perché si tratta di un errore della giustizia.
Ieri, la Corte d’appello, composta dai giudici Adrian Hardiman, Michael Hanna e Gerard Hogan, ha concesso il patrocinio gratuito a McKevitt per presentare la domanda. Una data per l’udienza sarà fissata nel mese di dicembre.

A Co Louth man is seeking to have his conviction for organising terrorist activities for the Real IRA declared a miscarriage of justice.
Michael McKevitt (58), Beech Park, Blackrock, Co Louth, was convicted after a lengthy trial before the non-jury Special Criminal Court in August 2003 of organising terrorist activities for the Real IRA. In 2008, the Supreme Court rejected an appeal.
Lawyers for McKevitt are now seeking to have the conviction set aside on the grounds that it involves a miscarriage of justice.
Yesterday, the appeal court, comprising Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman, Mr Justice Michael Hanna and Mr Justice Gerard Hogan, granted McKevitt legal aid to bring the application. A date for hearing will be fixed in December.
