Un dissidente repubblicano armato è comparso lo scorso lunedì presso i disordini di Armagh, mentre una parata per il 12 luglio stava terminando
Hanno affermato che “è venuto per proteggere la comunità dalla RUC” ed i commenti sul sito pungolano la polizia a proposito della morte dell’agente Stephen Carroll a Craigavon.
Nel video, che sembra essere ripreso con un telefono cellulare, l’uomo a volto coperto cammina verso delle macerie in fiamme su un marciapiede e quindi ritorna sui suoi passi per un saluto con un uomo che fa parte di un gruppo di circa 20 persone.
Una portavoce della PSNI ha detto al News Letter: “Sebbene non controlliamo quotidianamente i siti Internet, comunque, quando qualcosa di natura criminale viene portato alla nostra attenzione, noi investigheremo in modo esauriente.
“Azioni appropriate sono prese quando i reati sono compiuti nella nostra giurisdizione”.
Il direttore di un’associazione di vittime, Willie Frazer, dice che il filmato è l’ulteriore prova della “sfrontatezza” dei dissidenti repubblicani nella Contea.
Riferisce che ci sono state dozzine di attacchi e intimidazioni e molestie per tutto il Twelfth, molti in zone isolate vicino al confine.
Il direttore di FAIR (Families Acting for Innocent Relatives) ha detto che molte delle famiglie attaccate dai dissidenti repubblicani sono troppo spaventate per parlare.
“Gli attacchi orchestrati hanno lo scopo di provocare il terrore nell’isolata comunità protestante lungo il confine e di allontanarli dalle loro case e fattorie.
“Le Orange Hall sono state attaccate – alcune delle quali completamente distrutte come una vicino a Darkley – e altri edifici sono stati colpiti ma la cosa più preoccupante è l’aumento degli attacchi contro le abitazioni isolate”.
Frazer afferma che i dissidenti repubblicani stanno creando delle no go areas” (zone nelle quali è vietato l’ingresso, Ndt) perché la polizia non è in grado di superare la paura di finire sotto attacco.
“Ho speso molto tempo degli ultimi giorni con le famiglie protestanti che soffrono di continue intimidazioni.
“Il basso livello ma l’alta intensità degli attacchi sono utilizzati come un disturbo notturno e le tattiche di intimidazioni sono usate per rendere insopportabile la vita dei residenti.
“Molestie nel cuore delle notte, con porte prese a calci, colpi alle finestre e furto di animali, la cui cadenza quasi quotidiana diventano insostenibili, specialmente per la gente anziana o vedove che abitano da sole”.

VIDEO: Dissident gunman appears at riot
A DISSIDENT republican gunman appeared at last Monday’s riot in Armagh as a Twelfth of July parade was dispersing.
They claimed that he “came down to protect the community from the RUC” and comments on the website also goaded the police about the dissident murders of Stephen Carroll in Craigavon.
In the video, which appears to have been taken on a mobile phone, the masked gunman is seen walking towards debris burning on a footpath and then returning to a cheer from a man who is part of a group of about 20 people standing watching.
A PSNI spokeswoman told the News Letter: “While we do not monitor internet sites on a day-to-day basis, however, when something of a criminal nature is brought to our attention, we will thoroughly investigate it.
“Appropriate action is taken when criminal offences are detected within our jurisdiction.”
Victims’ campaigner Willie Frazer said that the footage was further evidence of the “brazenness” of dissident republicans in the county.
He said that there had been dozens of attacks and instances of intimidation and harassment over the Twelfth, many in isolated border areas.
The FAIR director said that many of the families targeted by dissident republicans were too terrified to speak out.
“The orchestrated attacks are aimed to strike fear into the isolated Protestant community along the border and to drive them from their homes and farms.
“Orange halls have been attacked — some totally destroyed, like one near Darkley — and other halls have been attacked but the most worrying thing is the escalation in attacks and incidents at isolated homes.”
Mr Frazer claimed that dissident republicans were creating “no go areas” because police were not prepared to move out of fear that they were being lured into traps.
“I have spend much time over the recent days with Protestant families who are suffering continual intimidation.
“Low level but high intensity attacks are being used with nightly nuisance and intimidation tactics used to make life unbearable for local people.
“Harassment in the middle of the night, with doors being kicked, windows knocked and animals stolen, which on a regular nightly basis becomes unbearable, especially for elderly people or widows living on their own.”
